The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

The thread was getting derailed. I'll take partial responsibility.

As will I, since I was one of the folk attacked for posting.

But dagnabbit, if Grog hasn't gummed'up this thread with his ridiculous sheath nonsense, or Lars with his silly photography, and other people with... ;)

It seems to me that we should just have a dedicated thread called, "Survive!, how's it going? I have some concerns..."

It might be a good place for people to voice their concerns, and also give others a venue for blasting the company over its youth and inexperience, its tricky business decisions and low personnel numbers, its delayed response-to-email times, etc. Sort of like a "Questions for Ellie" thread... or maybe that IS what that "questions" thread is supposed to be but folk still feel the need to re-thread or comment in other threads on this same topic. It is a concern that weighs on the minds of some, and it will continue to be a concern for some time to come. The trick is letting people voice concerns without them feeling the need to go on a tirade or without fans feeling the needs to oppose them. *shrug* If you start a thread, you get replies, whereas a post in a thread may just be ignored.

8 hours after transcribing the pattern. I don't know how guys kick these out for a living. Will be a 4.7 sheath if it doesn't suck. Yggdrasil Jr. I'm thinking.

Nice work once again bud!

So I wonder if grogimus got that baby fitted to the 4.7.
Just another coat of dye on, belt loop glued and stitched, and got the welt glued in. I want to get it oiled and waxed but I don't mess with them much until the cement's had a while to cure.

Thanks man. Got it sewn up, edges worked on, and one coat of Montana pitch on it.

It does fit, holy buckets! Like a glove even. Takes a lot of faith in the pattern making process but Paul Long aka sheathmaker is the absolute man when it comes to all things leather sheath wise. He's just sick, he's a ninja/wizard with leather. His DVD's helped me more than any hands on stuff I've done.

I spent a few days walking around the zoo, museums and beach. I spend a lot of time on my feet at work and hiking / climbing at home, so My feet are relatively tough. I never have issues with my feet, so I should not have a problem during vacation... Wrong! I rubbed a tiny sore on my toe due to a rock getting lodged in my sock. The sore was so uncomfortable that I could barely walk with shoes on by the second day of my vacation. We purchased some mole skin, and the issues was alleviated. However, it illustrates the importance of foot health in any survival / outdoor adventure situation. Lesson learned: pack moleskin in my "get home bag."

+1 on the moleskin. We used to use it when I was cruising timber in Montana. We would work six 11-hour days where you were on your feet most all the time. It definitely cuts the friction down on those hot spots. Man I wish I was still in that kind of shape, ha.

I've never used moleskin till last week. I got some to try after all the crazy hours I've been on my feet. I have two pair of work boots I swap and they both wear different spots. I threw on a piece of moleskin on a blister that was starting and BAM! It was like a whole new foot. I agree, I'll never leave home without it again.

Goruck used to make a "foot care" kit that was vacuum sealed and perfect for this scenario, I only bought one and now they don't have them!! Great for tossing in a bag though!

Silver Needle and chiral mentioned Evan Williams elsewhere, great minds! 😉 I like the black label just fine, especially for the price, but the single barrel is definitely a smoother beast.

Trying something a little different on the leather today, I'll either credit the Evan Williams for inspiration or blame it for clumsiness.
