At the end of this double shoulder so I used a flubbed piece for the welt, hate that it showed through.

MAN, you got those leather skills

I think the mantis is the coolest insect around. Too bad I can't find them here in the midwest! Sweet pic.

That would be a cool name but if I ever start selling I've already got a name and logo picked out with a kinda funny, kinda sappy background.

A mantis would make a neat project, they're the only bug that I don't see as something to be squished, swatted, or sprayed.

Out of leather, that is a bummer. Dropped some PCB etchant on my Ugly Betty and went outside to the garage to work on a Christmas present, I thought a tree spirit in a piece of alder would be nice.

Nope. I managed to chip a big piece of the nose out when I slipped doing a back cut into the nose.

Cussed a bit, then grabbed a spoon blank I'd roughed out from some birch with a CPK Field Knife and went to work on it with the 4.7 and 2 of Del Stubbs excellent carving knives. Nothing could go wrong with some bourbon and razor sharp knives right?

Seems like an excellent prelude to an awesome gaping wound but I stopped there. I liked using the burning coal method better, it takes forever to hollow out the spoon bowl.

Waiting on the second etching hour, I didn't see any result from the first hour at all.

This breakdancing mantis just won't cut it. Funny though.

Gotta sell a couple knives to upgrade membership and order some more leather.

Grog,
I didn't upgrade to "craftsman" until I'd actually managed to sell a couple UKEs to people in random threads or along with knives I'd listed for sale, actually used the sales of my first few to pay for the membership itself once I was actually ready to start offering them for sale regularly as opposed to one-offs. What I am saying is, why not build an inventory/gallery of sheaths first, sell a few along the way to pay for supplies perhaps, and only upgrade once you are really ready to advertise and offer them for sale on a regular basis?

Quick google-search of "mantis logo" got me this by "LisaGorska" - second image is just a squished version (the photo, not the bug ;) )
