The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

You're a talented dude LarsL. It was cool to see one of your photos on the Gazette out of Colorado Springs.

Lars is the best. I "liked" him on Facebook awhile ago and Facebook shows me his pics every day! Serious talent.

Lars, what a life style! Out in all those beautiful places capturing it all. Anytime your use of a GSO is work related, that is a serious win!

EDIT: I also have to say Lars' night time shots are absolutely amazing. I've never seen anything like them. As soon as I get a proper man cave I'll need some of his prints for the walls!

Does anyone else ever get irritated enough at the negative stuff floating around you check the website just to see if there's something you can buy to support them? The latest 'We know better than you' thread really makes me want to reflexively send them money.

I went on yesterday to see if anything was in stock lol

It is a 25-second log exposure before sunrise. The snow really made for a great photography morning.

Yes, I do sell photos, sell wall calendars, give lessons, provide workshops etc. I went full time with this back in April because I could no longer do this AND have a full time job, too. :) I spend a lot of time camping for this so it is always a good idea to have some awesome knives with you.
Nice pic. I looked at the exif and noted the f13. Obviously you're wanting depth of field but that much stopping down creates its own problems due to lens distortion, at least in small format.

Aperture does not have any effect on lens distortion. You probably meant to say diffraction.

Yes, trying not to sound too technical. Small format is at its sharpest at f8 or wider. It's a compromise when you want some field depth. In this pic most of it was at infinity.

Too bad landscape photography involves freezing in the wee hours . Glad you did it so we could enjoy it.

^ depends on the lens.

For landscape photography, though, unless you're trying to capture both close foreground detail and stuff at infinity, you'd generally max out at f5.6 or f8. Beyond that and you're not likely getting the optimal performance out of the lens, and unnecessarily increasing the requisite exposure time and/or ISO to make your exposure.

Got my Ugly Betty CruForgeV and 2.7 2nd in today. The family is growing. Aww, kids!

Aww, what a nice family. Getting those fraternal triplet 4.7s is special. That new spec 5.1 does seem a lot bigger than the 4.7. I can't wait to get mine in the mail next week and give it a good going over and compare it to the old spec version.

Tex is right on, and to be more specific, what is up for purchase now is from the current batch of steel. It's not like an entirely new run that has to be started like the 5.1's.

Nice. I just hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere they were taking more pre-sale orders for the 7/7. Was wondering if it was going to be a separate release, like they did for the 5.1.

I think a presale comes available when steel is finished being cut and SURVIVE! knows how many orders were placed and how many blanks they have to work with.
