The "Triceratops" Is Coming Sunday, October 31, 2021 at 9:00PM Eastern

Your situation sounds reasonable since they were all on one order I could understand that, but 2 separate charges on 2 separate dates for 1 knife/order seems odd to me. Worse comes to worse I’ll get 2 and have to sell 1. Do you think I’d have a good chance selling it at a profit?
The market for selling Busse’s at a big profit isn’t what it was 10 years ago. Operation 2 weeks changed things a lot. So now, unless you have something rare or old, you should get your money back but I wouldn’t expect to make a big profit on it

Agreed. Unless it's a special Custom shop, you'll probably break even after shipping, fees, etc. Busse is producing a lot more knives and models in the past.

IMO, anyone buying the standard offerings as an investment is going to be disappointed.

I like this because it allows people who want the knife to get the knives at reasonable prices, rather than enabling a scalper operation where those with resources sweep the stock just for profit (flipping) while those who just want the knife for use/appreciation are left having to just drool or suffer crazy high collector prices.

On the other hand, I do understand the pleasure and value of seeing your business and product be valued and traded at much higher than initial asking price. That's a great thing too.

There's a balance somewhere... (And I'm not one to know/say where that is)

I think at a certain point it starts to drive people from the brand. For instance Half Face Blades is hot at the moment and they do drops every Sat. They have had issues with Bots buying stock, people buying and listing for sale at 3-5x the purchase price, listing before even receiving, sales that say DM for offers, etc. Watching the group, you can see the disappointment with the long term fans and the threads on how to use them as an investment to make money on later.

Like you said there has to be a balance. But as I’ve always said, steel is not the place to bank your retirement unless you are the one making it. All brand heat and cool, commanding higher prices before they drop. Just the nature of the community

i think these could be in the slightly over asking price category but don't think these would be 2x+. only cause they are unique and kbits seem pretty rare for the shop

dont think it will end up like the silent knights though, as far as I seen those were one of the few cases where I saw them routinely selling under msrp (though ebay had other plans lol)

Yeah, by balance, I mean it's great to be creative and innovate. Be able to sell great stuff, and have people like the products so much the demand out pace the supply, thereby increasing perceived/actual value. It would be silly to expect a company that likes to innovate to keep all models around forever... But to intentionally bank on each (all) release being extremely limited and drive the prices up "mostly" by scarcity would eventually hurt the brand. As your example illustrated.

Of course, the level/degree of application to full-custom, semi-custom, semi-production, etc. would obviously differ. And because it differs on so many levels, that optimal balance per brand or product would be different as well. (Hence my statement of non-knowing.)

I'm not saying Jerry and the gang are doing anything wrong at all. Busse isn't Victorinox or some run of the mill mass production company. I'm just pointing out that I'm actually glad to see the increase of Bussekin availability and secondary prices leveling out a bit, so when someone missed a release, is new to Busse, or want to repurchase after selling, they're not limited to collectors-only prices. I don't mind mild increases in secondary prices for the seller's trouble/effort/ability to buy on release... But flipping for large profit incentives would turn people off.

Keep in mind, Crab Shack / Custom Shop, limited releases like prototypes, special variants, special coatings, etc. aren't included in my above thinking... Just the standard releases.

Scrapyards TNT15 is an exception I saw some going for about $475-500. Never sold one of mine but if I do end up with two I’d give it a shot. “At least 3 years before it appears again, if that!” For a custom shop double edge keaambit sounds like a winner
Not familiar with operation 2 weeks. Which knives were being shipped that quickly?

Are you fairly new to Busse?

I think it was what 2014-15ish that Operation 2 weeks kicked off. Before then things were pretty limited with just a few options on the website that you could order, custom shop and the occasional Ganza and Blade Show. Once O2W kicked off we start get getting new blades on a very regular basis. So with that we got some classic designs re-released and re-imagined as well as a lot of new designs and the grab bags. Long story short, things have slowed down from when it first kicked off, but O2W has gotten a lot kore blades out to the fans than we’re available previously which has also hurt the robust secondary market that used to be out there

"Operation 2 Weeks" (or OP2W) was to be a departure from Busse's previous practice of offering one knife at a time (or sometimes two) on the Busse website for a few months. As originally conceived, OP2W knived would be available for two weeks, or until they sold out. In practice, the knives would typically be released on a Wednesday and would be sold out by the end of the weekend. Apart from a gap between Part 1 (OP2WP1) and Part 2 (OP2WP2), it was usually at least one new model every week.

This was an enormously successful marketing plan, and the backlogs got longer and longer. I did a couple threads collecting the "Operation 2 Weeks" releases with an aim towards helping prople figure out about how long it would take before their credit cards got charged. But they also list all the knives offered in OP2W, along with links to the original offers.

It's not clear whether or when OP2W officially ended, but by 2019 it seemed like they were doing something else. That's when I quit calling it OP2W. They slowed down on the new offers and worked through the OP2W backlog. With wait times no longer stretching out to six months or more, I quit keeping track of the time from offer to shipping, but continued to list each new release.

Back in the day I ran a Speed Shop. When a customer placed a special order we told them it would take "A couple of days to a week, possible longer".

If memory serves me, I think the HOGB8 might have been the longest wait in O2WP2 - I think I bought every blade throughout Part 2 knowing it would eventually end - been just a trickle since.
I'm not going to say it was easy to wait, it wasn't but after a couple years it's more of an acclimation. But yeah, it was tough being a piglet in those moments for me. Nowadays? order and forget.

Old Chinese proverb - "Happiness is something to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to" There's a ton of Infi happiness provided by a new Busse in that looking forward to case :p

Can I use shop credit for this? Triceratops release was before Black Friday, but hasn’t been billed yet.

I don't know how long the wait was for the B8....but I do remember waiting a year and a half....for the Pork chop. It sucks waiting so long but it makes it even more special when it finally does come. BTW, hope all is well Leo!

Does not look like it

"These Black Friday Shop Credits are:
- Only good for knife orders placed after date of payment in full. "
