The ultimate knife movie.

The Edge was very good and portrayed knives in a positive light. I liked how the knife was used to create a weapon rather than being used as a weapon itself.

One vote for Exposure. The movie rocked and it really show cases some fine blades. " the applegate is good knife but i think the Randall for defence" Misquote from Ares.
BTW Crowe uses a Victorinox Swiss Tool in Proof of Life.

Hey thats my First post:)

Predator 1.

Who can forget when Arnie slams the Jack Crain MCS into the log?!

I love it!

The machete joke was nifty too, I guess.....

....but the one that did it for me was Rambo first blood. Funny thing is, my favourite part of the movie was when the cop pulls him over, checks him and pulls the knife out of the sheath....dont know why....

Rambo First Blood was the movie that introduced me to custom knives. I stayed in the theater to read the credits and say the name Jimmy Lile.

Gundy, Im with you. When Brian Denehey stops Rambo, pats him down and finds the knife. He then asks Rambo "Whats this for".

Rambo replies "hunting".

Sheriff "oh yea wise guy what do you hunt with a knife".

Rambo "name it".

That coupled with Rambo II on the boat when the female agent asks "what brings you luck Rambo".

Rambo "this I guess"

He then holds up that 10" fighter, black in the center and mirror finished on the edge.
That knife is one of my favorites in my collection.

I like the movie First Blood. Despite the hype, and larger than life Rambo, the knife is actually used primarily as a tool. It is the knife's credible supporting role that grounds the fantastic exploits of Stallon's character.

Another vote for The Edge, with honorable mention to First Blood. The thing I like about The Edge is how well it portrayed the utility and necessity of a good knife. I feel that it gave non-knifers a glance at the fact that a good knife is so much more than just a weapon or a badge of machismo.

What about "The Hunted"? It had Cristopher Lambert,Joan Chen
and John Lone as a master swordsman.Great scene on a bullet train
in Japan.
When a policeman wants to confiscate John's sword;John breaks
it in two, rather than turn it in.
Rent the movie,you'll love it!

How about "Marathon man"? Anybody remember Szell's ( Lawrence
Olivier's ) "cutter"? That wicked switch that shot out of the coat sleeve? Or that other scene where Janeway whipped out a switchblade
and "stabbed" one of Szell's henchmen to "save" Dustin Hoffman?

A.E.T.

"Blind Fury" is pretty cool for some sword action. Can't forget about the belt buckle knife Schwarzanegger used in "Eraser" either. Lets see, all of the "Highlander" movies have some great sword action too, although the story's consistecy from movie to movie is nonexistent. Oh, and my favorite so far "Blade" and "Blade II"!!!!! Yes, they aren't 'real' knives, but still, they're pretty sweet anyway, as far as looks are concerned.

For great swordplay take a look at Star Wars episode II.
It is really funny when Yoda uses that mini-light-sabre:D.

"Conan the Barbarian" seems to have been forgotten here...

Okay it's been driving me nuts for years. Can anyone tell me who made the knife used by Anthony Hopkins in The Edge?

The knife used by Anthony Hopkins in "The Edge" was a custom lockback made by Brian Lyttle of High River, Alberta (Canada). I remember seeing it featured in Blade magazine a few years ago.

Here's his site:

"The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins and Adam Baldwin happens to be my favourite knife movie because it depicts the knife being used in a realistic manner. No tough guy image, just a man trying to survive with his friends while lost in the bush.

The Ultimate Knife Movie has to be "The Iron Mistress" after 50 years it's still getting articles about it in Blade magazine. I've heard it's the movie responsible for starting more knife makers. I know it inspired my favorite makers dreams.

I think the Edge is important also, heck it was the title character. It also happens to be one of the knives I'd really like to own.

Thank you, PhilL, and thank you also for sending that print around last year. The Iron Mistress may not be as sophisticated, etc. as many modern knife films, and various folks, Jerry Fisk included, have said that the actual knife is a pig, heavy and awkward, bu the movie was the one that turned a whole generation on to knives, just at the beginning of the "Baby Boom" years. I saw it at he "drive-out" movie theater some years after its initial release as well as in its initial run, and it was as neat the second time around as the first. It's a bit (well, a lot) dated by today's standards, but, damn, its still a good film. "I put a little Heaven and a little Hell into that blade."

Okay, no one brought this one up, so I will.

In "Face Off", John Travolta is an FBI guy after Nicholas Cage. JT teaches his snotty teenage daughter how to defend herself with a balisong (don't know which kind).

Later, when Nicholas Cage (in his Travolta mode) threatens the daughter, she whips out the bali and cranks it into his thigh.

I can't recall if there are other knife sequences in there, but lots of guns. (Typical for John Woo).

My vote is for “The Edge” because of the wilderness setting, but, if you manage to find it, take a look at “High Art” (Brazil, 1991), directed by Walter Salles Jr. and featured by Peter Coyote. Not a masterpiece but if you are a knifenut you should see it.

Another one in Faceoff was Cage swinging his Safekeeper I at Travolta.

A few others:
Long Kiss Goodnight(a long auto, fighters, semi-fantasy,etc.)

Skinner (a horror flick, the guy walks around with a bag full of blades)

Normal Life-Ashley Judd's tanto

Nature of the Beast-coolest tomahawk I've ever seen.

Things To Do In Denver...When You're Dead- Treat Williams uses a buckle knife, bowie, auto retract otf, etc. I love this movie.

Switchblade Sisters-An exploitation film from the 70's featuring a girl gang armed with swing guard autos (and later,M1 carbines and M16A1s). Not bad really, for what it is, and full of action.

plus the Cobra knife has been in about 4 or 5 movies I've seen.

Which spyderco did hannibal used exactly? I didn't even know that he used a spyderco. I remember he used something that looks like a hawkbill.
