The ultimate knife movie.

Rebel Without A Cause-James Dean and the switchblade fight at the Menlo Park observatory. Probably one of the earliest "bad boy" knife scenes to influence my misspent youth.

Also think Last of the Mohicans with Danielle Day-Lewis was a pretty cool flick-mainly for the Tomahawk scenes.

Cool. I guess I'll have to watch it carefullly next time ;)

The movie, Exposure is available at Amazon. I just ordered a new one for $9.95 and there are used ones for $3.95.

Hannibal used a Harpy and I think there was a Civilian in there somewhere too. Maybe I'm confused about that because I remember that there was one in the book. I'm pretty sure it's in the movie somewhere though too.

I hope that I am not the only one (age???) who remembers the movie "WAIT UNTIL DARK" with Alan Arkin and Audrey Hepburn?

I think it came out in the late 1960's.

He had a name for that knife......

Neil

If memory serves, that knife was called Geraldine.

Sylvester Stallone in Cobra - He does that ring finger opening nice, silent and slow during the first fight scene. Then, in later scenes, the psycho killer dude with his custom whatchamacallit badd-*ss knife that he used to dispatch victims.

Another knife in movies - who can forget in Chinatown, that scene down by the water filtration plant - the director of the movie in a cameo where he sticks this custom made knife right up into Jack Nicholson's nostril and holds it there in what seems forever. Scared me sh*tless!

Then, there's always Edward Scissorhands! ;)

I like the knives and fight scenes in "Dune."

However, (sorry, going off topic here) can someone help me out and identify another knife movie? It involves the hero seeking refuge in an out-of-the-way boarding house (or hotel?). There were upstairs rooms with flowing curtains--which, of course, the demons came in through. He is being pursued by demons (many) but cannot convince others of the ensuing horror. He uses a butterfly knife throughout the movie to kill attacking demons. I'm not sure if he was a priest but there were religious undercurrents to the story. At the end, he is killed but enlightens and passes on the duty to a black woman. She must now try to convince people of the danger (about the demons) that will now try to eliminate her and destroy mankind. I'd rate the movie about 2.5 to 3.0 stars out of a possible 4 but the butterfly knife action is what I'd like to see again. (Note: I like action movies and despise chick flicks or artsy fartsy movies that Roger Ebert adores).

Brothers & Sisters of Movie Steel,

West Side Story was a popular introduction movie for "blades". Japanese Samurai flickers are good resources. Exposure is also known as High Arte. (www.imdb.com) Fencing movies. Pirate movies - Ha HAR!

There are good scenes and great films with many of the 'tools-of-the-trade'. Three Musketeers of any age. From Here To Eternity.

EXPOSURE for technique and some wonderful visions, i.e. "Joe Kious...Very rare." Personal favorite.

What a bout "The Fan" Denero's character was a knife salesman. Some nice blades if I remember correctly.

I liked the Edge.

What about Sniper with Tom Barrenger(sp) and Billy Zane?

There was an EK, Mark I, a Leatherman, a Smatchet, a USMC Fighting Knife, ( the one being dunked was a china pos with the large compass in the top of the handle:barf: ). Maybe more.

While I like The Edge and The Iron Mistress I wanted to mention The Long Riders a good period piece by Walter Hill about the James Gang. A heckuva good knife fight between David Carradine as Cole Younger and James Remar as Sam Starr (if memory serves). They're both using BIG bowies and holding a ribbon from Belle Starr between their teeth. Sound track by Ry Cooder, you can't go wrong.

I second the earlier mention of The Last of the Mohicans IMHO it's the best at showing CQB with a knife and axe combo. Some very slick moves.

One more suggestion, but it's not for everyone. My girlfriend at the time wanted to see Spanish director Carlos Saura's movie Carmen starring Antonio Gades. It's about a flamenco dance troupe performing the opera Carmen as a flamenco dance. Lots of gorgeous women dancing their buns off. Plot twist is that the main dancers fall for each other and 'live out' the plot of Carmen, ending in a big knife fight with those wicked long Spanish Navaja folding knives. Interesting knife duel, unlike any I've ever seen...imagine a knife duel done with tons of dignity, pauses while the 'seconds' check details. Sounds weird, but I will say these flamenco dancers knew how to use those long knives, and they could make some impressive moves. Remember Gene Kelley leaping backwards over a chair in his version of the 3 Musketeers? I know I don't want to disagree with somebody who can bounce around like that. It's in Spanish with subtitles, and if you can't stand seeing a foreign movie full of pretty girls dancing in order to catch an impressive knife duel at the end, stay away.

I agree with most about Exposure/High Art. Probably THE knife movie. Then there was Chinatown where Jack Nicholson gets his nose ventilated.....LOL.........Not sure what knife was used though.

Then there was also Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone. There were several knife scenes, but my favourite in this movie was when one of the good guys was hanging on the cliff and nailed the baddie in the leg with a Spyder? Then there is the knife fight scene in the cave with the baddie.

Then there was Vertical Limit or something when they get stranded in a snow covered mountain and use knives to cut rope......a couple of scenes in there.

The Edge certainly depicts a pocket folder as a primary survival tool, which is what I carry my CRKT Ryan 7 for. Check out www.equipped.com for Doug Ritter's views on knives. He personally carries a large Sebenza, custom engraved for him.

uppercutKO, thanks for the help on "Demon Knight." I've been trying to recall the title of that movie through all kinds of internet movie databases but have been unsuccessful. I'm off to find that video or DVD. :D

I'm glad to see someone mentioned "wait until dark" i have been searching for "Geraldine" for years (setteled for the MT nemesis)

Also "Switchback" w/ Danny Glover.
One of the old John Wayne movies had a knife throwing good guy and the magnificent 7 had Lee Marvin throwing an Italian auto in a duel.

"Legends of the Fall" had a deranged Brad Pitt going to war w/ bowie knife.

There should more...

Another vote for Dune. There are two versions. One lasts about 4 hours, that's the one you want to see.
