White bone and then everyone can dye it whatever the heck they want? I'm not being flippant. It does seem to be the easiest solution for a 'one size fits all' bone cover. Personally I'd love the white, watching it change colour from use like natural leather darkening with age. Those who dyed it can start a thread and wow us with their results. How hard can it be to achieve a deep red anyway? :)

Not sure what the draw for Ironwood is as the last runs of the Mustang and Viper were left very rough and unfinished including the bolsters. GEC will not polish Ironwood and leave them at about 220 grit and call them finished, also the wood grain can vary greatly.

GEC called it "Scratted Parchment Bone"
lol.... they say "to-may-to", I say "to-mah-to".... either way, it's an interesting pattern. :D

As much as I love my ironwood viper, which has kicked everything else out of my pocket for months... I must agree with SteveC SteveC in how they were finished (or unfinished as the case my be). My understanding is GEC will not polish that wood anymore, and it would be a mistake on this year’s forum knife if they were shipped out like the 74s and 47s.

I think Charlie just likes to lord his power over us. :D

*Posts for input on BF knife cover options*

I share some things about this knife community with my wife, knowing she'll just think we're a bunch of... 'enthusiasts'... (my word, not hers).
There are other things I don't share because I'm convinced she would think I am legitimately crazy.

You know what option I think we could all get behind though? Smooth Black Camel Bone. Here's why:
  • It's smooth, so it's the perfect worry stone during these troubling times
  • Camel bone is handsome and lasts a long time, just like our fearless and intelligent 2021 BF knife leaders
  • Black is a color of mourning and over the past year or so I'm sure I'm not alone in the fact that I've lost people.
  • the dying will be random and unique, so everyone will get something slightly different.
  • It will go well with our tuxedos
  • It matches well with Steel, Brass or Nickle Silver
  • It's the underdog choice, and who doesn't love a good underdog story?
  • edit: also, 9/10 cats have agreed that they wouldn't bat it off the table.

You sure you've tested that with Cats? My Tabby bats everything off tables, shelves, cabinets, fireplaces...:D A nice small Jade Elephant has never been the same since it fell to earth :(

Any manner of Camelbone is worth a try I feel.

BONE FOR THOUGHT

I think that we should gawk at the kind of fancy bolster we're talking about wearing some of the smooth ivory/white bone. It looks sooooo good:

Some more smooth white bone with fancy finish:

If we're talking Sawcut, GEC's Copperhead dye is consistently good. The Old Red they used to use was also stellar, but I haven't seen any red like this from GEC in years.

That 85 Ivory/White Bone looks familiar ;)

Stupendous knife the 81 Stockman, high time for a revival

Great items all, that's something everybody concurs with :D

;););)

And you're right, GEC has been getting three cheers for the patterns they've decided to dust off lately, and an 81 Stockman undoubtedly would keep that trend headed upward.

Satin bolsters can be “fixed” extremely easy in 5 minutes or less. Of course a polished finish can be satined in about 30 seconds so...

Snakewood

Man, I love that snakewood, Ed. I have a 29 dressed in snakewood that I like a lot as well.

But if memory serves me well, which it often does not, the run of snakewood was short on the 29s and finished off with bloodwood. I’m not sure GEC has the stock or ability to commit to a large run of snakewood knives. I think it may be a brittle and/or finicky wood to work with at best. Sure is pretty when it works, though!

Your memory is correct. I got one of the bloodwood 29's.

I'll post some more tonight after work and will include Ironwood
Excellent work Mr Waverave....perhaps if you could subliminely highlight the blue making it look much better than the others in order to influence decisions....but keep it a secret between us...cheers. Also make the white just ever so dull and grey looking...make it look boring...that shouldnt be difficult...
Thanks.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have strange idea based on this...whatever came second last year in the polls becomes this years choice automatically....naaah I spose yer right...that was then this is now...we should have something fresh and clean...err but not white.
