I found this excerpt in an old Lonely Planet travellers guidebook..
"Porchenberg and surrounding localities can be only be reached by sea. New Porchford Harbour a former whaling port with all the associated social problems and smells that one would expect.Several Inns and Taverns are wedged between the docks and Porchcliff Rocks. The savvy traveller is well advised to scurry quickly past these rowdy establishments. Typically if a new face fresh off the boat enters The Harbour Masters Arms or The Clip and Spey the patrons will cease their animated chatter and the Pianola will automatically stop playing...the only sounds audible will be the squeaking of the batwing doors and the squeaking of the Innkeepers greasy teatowel in the glass he is drying. Only if you are stout of heart should you venture to the bar. The drinks menu is made of emojis so be sure to study these strange runic symbols well before you arrive. Simply ask politely for what you want by name ...at this point the Pianola will resume playing and the animated discussions will recommence.DO NOT under any circumstances act tough ,throw some coin on the bar and point at the 'specials drinks' menu above the bar....the smiley emojis belie beverages such as Meakos Revenge...a disgusting green concoction of Stalinn vodka ,neat lime cordial and Fulmars egg yolk....it has the consistency of Narwhales phlegm and tastes like roadkill on a hot day...avoid the specials menu like the plague! All of the other hostelries have similarly delicioso signature cocktails. At The Clip n Spey its called a Tomcat...for obvious reasons...At Stockmans Downchunder nite spot cocktail bar beef n reef Irish theme pub its The Growling Gorilla.....and so forth..."

I will attempt to find the rest of this fascinating guidebook.....

Not enough LoomFixer knives in the world.

I’d love a good quality Stag LoomFixer with carbon steel blades.

Yeah, that’s because all you guys chose a barlow and are now wanting it in red soup bone!

sheesh. Who doesn’t want one of those!

Imagine if every company wanting an SFO and every club wanting a knife built looked at every knife in GEC’s back catalogue and picked out the most popular and (until then) rarest pattern, and said ‘We have a whole bunch of guys who technically aren’t part of a club, but they all have their hands up, and gee Bill, can you help us out?’

I love the BF knife, but I don’t think it’s ever been a means to get a cheap copy of a popular pattern, and I don’t think it should be.

I understand there should be some criteria set at the forum owner / moderators level for who can purchase, and that has been done.

Within that limitation I see very little distinction between a bunch of members who rarely post in traditionals buying a knife and a bunch of members who post in traditionals buying multiples for family members who aren’t porch members, or to keep in tubes in a closet with their 200 other NIT GEC knives (which will likely end up being sold at greatly inflated prices down the road). Neither group in this case is limiting the ability of the rest of us to get a knife, if we want.

I see that in the First Bf’s knife thread that it’s closed, is there a final decision on model and scales? Where does one send money?

Well if you want to send someone money, you can send it to me. I’m sure I could find use for it. I suggest reading the first post in that thread and all will be revealed.

I think all we know for sure is that it's going to be a #86 Barlow single blade clip point. Everything else is TBD

I always feel like folks get too worked up over Forum Knife eligibility, flippers, and just everything about this process. Part of that is in the nature of a forum dedicated to people who are seriously into specific kinds of knives. But I wish that more folks would just relax a bit on the various eligibility, ordering, winnowing schemata (though I also support the idea of pre-paying, but I am not an organizer). Just calm down, have some faith in the organizers and mods. This isn't their first rodeo. The Traditional Sub-Forum Knife is open to all Bladeforums members who meet the requirements, as it always is.

Agonizing in the dark about all of the various possible ramifications of order size is counter-productive. Once again, have some faith in the organizers and mods. This isn't their first rodeo.

I'm glad we are getting a knife again. Try to focus on that.

I was reading on random internet blogs that President Washington carried a Barlow. Being that the legend goes that he got caught by his Father for hacking on their cherry tree (but did not lie about it) it makes sense to use Cherry wood.

;)

I am just messing around. Jigged bone is the correct answer.

😂
