The upcoming, anticipated, way-too-excited GEC 85's Thread!

I had a clip point 85 in brown jigged bone once. The clip blade just didn't do it for me. I really wanted to like it but it just felt different than the 85 with a spear. I will admit though, that red acrylic is awesome!

I am curious if the Scabre sharpness has to do with the added attention.
Just about everything I have received from GEC has needed edge attention right out of the tube.
-So common is this, that I have seen a peculiar term used before; "GEC Sharp". Which is to say, not so sharp.

Up until very recently, my experience has been the same. Every new GEC I got needed to be sharpened right out of the tube. It wasn't that they were "dull" necessarily - they would certainly cut - but they weren't as sharp as I knew I could get them (and by no means do I consider myself an expert at sharpening).

They have shown significant improvement lately, though. I got two #47 Vipers that were quite sharp out of the tube; I did sharpen them myself anyways, and they were even sharper after I finished (those Vipers will take a scary-sharp edge rather easily), but not a bad sharpening job by GEC. Then I got a Mudbug and a #18 Coyote, both of which were sharp enough that I didn't bother touching them up out of the tube. Figure I'll use them until they actually need sharpening, then put "my" edge on them.

I didn't order a Sabre #85, but I should be getting my standard flat-grind #85 in the mail today. Curious to see how the edge is on it.

As with any knife I'm concerned about sharpness, but that's something that can be easily fixed. I got a couple last year that had weird tooling marks on the blades.. as long as I don't get stag that's paper thin or dished and no tooling marks I will be happy. C'mon mailman... where ya at!

Have you got shipping notifications yet?

Yes Sir, early last week. Might make a difference, but I'm not sure... I do not have a scandi ordered, I was sure status from reservation in December.

I figured he was gonna ship both at once. Thanks you, sir.

I got tracking notices for a 2 blade and a scandi/saber last week, but the tracking number still comes up with nothing on USPS site.

While I assume they'll be shipped today...USPS tracking leaves a lot to be desired. It's either on point or left field.

One if each, two blade micarta and scaber single bloodwood.
Both shipped together, due in today.

Btb, thanks for the update. We shall see.

I've got a 2-blade micarta and an unpolished stag coming, but I'm in California so may have to live through others' pics for another day or two...

Mine are here! My assistant is picking them up now for me! Pics incoming!

Firrrrssssstttt! Or so I think...

What beauties!

Thanks, I can't wait to play with them later. I have to go meet with my Esquire. I'm really impressed with them. I wish I'd have gotten the 2 blade in Micarta as well.

They look great! Curious - expedited shipping?

I like how the bolsters seem to have a worn/user look to them.
I was hoping that they wouldn't be overly polished and showy for the workman nature/look of the canvas micarta.

Thanks for sharing!

They look like an inbetween satin/polished. Maybe it's just the picture.

HST - which one is sharper?

Micarta definitely has a hand rubbed similar to the 77 Barlow micarta which I love. Stag is polished.
