The upcoming, anticipated, way-too-excited GEC 85's Thread!

Pertinux, I thought about that thread you liked to (as I think I posted in it myself a while back), but decided to try a separate new thread, with hopes that it will be used as a location to rekindle interest in posting 85s and other bullet Jacks, and hopefully chart the progress of the new releases, and also become a new 85 release photo thread as well.

Brian,

That works for me! Helpfully nor not, I tend to take off-hand comments such as Ryouchijtx's as a Search challenge, especially if I can recall previous threads. :o Fresh threads such as this one catch a whole new wave of beauties to look at and discuss-- as yours is doing!-- but the older links are still sometimes valuable if they contain pictures that might no longer be seen otherwise. Your thread is doing the trick. :)

This cocobolo #85 is my #1 goomba. It's in my RF pocket all the time. The fit in hand is perfection, the F&F is top notch....and I do love how the cocobolo has darkened considerably.

Beautiful knife! I love the wording, "#1 Goomba." :D

Im still wondering about the corset shield.
Does anyone have the skills to photoshop a corset shield on an 85 to get a preview of what i might look like??

I don't have the requisite photoshop skills, but I venture you would look a tad more svelte through the middle, with the shield accentuating and complementing any pre-existing shapely curves.

-- Others here have proven able to accomplish exactly what you're seeking, to envision the shield on this pattern. Hopefully they will be along soon.

Thanks Pertinux; I love seeing all these beauties coming out to play in this thread!
The new thing I have been considering is that, at least in my admittedly short time here, it seems that when a big SFO happens, it seems that GEC does other SFOs as well for other dealers, as well as a "production" run as either a Northfield, a Tidioute, or even both.
This possibility excites me.
I shall need a second, knife- funding job if this is the case. ;)
Since I am dreaming, I would Love to see this knife come back with osage orange covers!
I might just pass out from hyperventilating if one version had a caplifter included. . . :)
Thanks,
Brian

From messaging another dealer normally on every GEC run it didn't seem that this would be a full run of 85s like normal. Just one dealer I'm afraid.

Gec might accept another sfo with Mike's run. Minimum is 50 and only differences allowed would be limited to cover and shield ( I think) . I would personally ask for Mike's blessing as well. I'd act soon , once they cut out parts they're set.
I thought about it this summer ( rotten banana) but I didnt follow though when mike announced his plans .

Besides the 2011 Forum Knife, were any other 85 SFOs or factory spear blade runs fitted with cap lifters?
I aim to use the heck out of an 85 spearlifter some day.

This run is Mike Latham's only as far as I know, no other dealers shall have an SFO; no Northfield or Tidioute to be made.
Unless you meant having your own SFO made, which would be interesting albeit costly D:

This run is Mikes only - I tried!:eek::(:(:(:(

I like the pattern, I have had a few. I'm on the list for a natural canvas, both flat and scandi, mostly because I am really curious about the scandi.

Holy cow, I NEED THIS KNIFE. That is everything I have been looking for, all wrapped in one package. Coping blade and all. Good grief!

I am trying to decide what I will end up liking the most..have a few reserved since I am so unsure. The antique yellow (do we know what type of jigging?), smooth autumn bone, or canvas micarta...

I don't have any antique yellow so I am leaning towards that one. Hoping one day GEC will start jigging like the Case Swayback Jack has...not sure what that kind is called but they have some deep scoops in mine.

In for two...
2 blade nat micarta
1 blade scandi bloodwood

Looks like I am going to be selling some knives to cover these...

Thanks(?) For the heads up, lol...

Be careful. Click the right one
I like the micarta option, the bloodwood should be nice, yellow jig bone...they are ALL going to be nice.
Also interested to see the scandi grind.

I'm rather hoping the Scandi grind single blade is of thicker blade stock. Would love to see it with an aggresive swedge, almost along the lines of a vintage "stabber Jack" built on a teardrop frame. Had to reserve one just in case this came to fruition.....

I wonder if the scandi spear will look like it does on the Northwoods Burnside Jack minus the heat treat scale and Northwoods logo/text.
