The Usual Supect Knife Count

I have had my differences with Kevin [MDK] but the idea of naming this rather cool thing after a knife who's claim to fame (on the Internet anyway) was being broken by a bonehead like Cliff Stamp...is troubling.

How about this?

The Usual Suspects
#XXX

Then, have a special logo, where's Joe when you need him? Have a special logo made up like this. I have no way of posting a version of it, just the idea.

You have the Emerson Knives Logo, then 2001 under it, right? Directly under that is an upside down version of the logo, as if a reflection...neat? I dunno...just kicking my two cents in the ring too.

Hi,
And I can safely say that I have done the necessary contacting to get my interest and number of folders wanted confirmed very early on.
Having said this, I have also made an early request for very low serial number which I will not mention
smile.gif
However, to make this fair and so that there is no fight for low serial numbers, especially for those who like low numbers,I suggest to you all to confirm if it would suit you to have the following marking on every knife with just these numbers:

Usual Suspect Knife
1 of 35 (or whatever the final number)

This way, every usual suspect will get a fair deal and no speculations on values of low number Usual Suspect knives in the secondary market.
Please post your thoughts on this

Warmest wishes,
Oliver

Kevin's Tusk broke? Hmmm... OK, how about, instead of TUSK, we make it look like the acronym it is, and engrave it T.U.S.K. That way, it SAYS "Tusk", but at the same time it doesn't - does that make sense?

As for a logo instead (and, given a bit of time, I could draw this up) how about a literal tusk, with the letters spelling out "T.U.S.K." fitting inside it? I'm trying to think how to explain it so you guys can "see" it... OK. Think of a sabre-tooth tiger's tooth. Long and curved and pointy, right? Now, imagine just the outline of that, and the "Tusk" letters (starting from the point, of course) going up the tooth, following the curve of it, and getting bigger as they go to fill the space as the tooth gets wider near the top. Good? Bad? Ugly?

As for serial numbers, I'm the FNG here, so I'll take what I can get, thanks.

Just my own thoughts, but we are here because of our respect for the Emerson design, so that should be the logo we have on the knife.

Space on the blade would be limited, so something along the lines of:-

The Usual Suspects
2001
#~xxxx

Any other thoughts ?

I think that Oliver raises a very valid point in respect to serial numbers. Perhaps it would be most fair (and easiest for Ernie) if we simply go with:
1 of 35
(or whatever the # of total pieces in this run ends up being).
That way everyone's Usual Suspect Knife is worth the same on the secondary market. However...since these are going to be such a special knives and since they represent the friendships and comradery here in the Emerson Forum, distinct serial#'s might help us identify any Usual Suspects who actually sell their Usual Suspect Knife on the secondary market, and would therefore allow us to accurately organize a proper lynching.

Personally I plan to carry these things as travel knives, and I would rather they are not to "pimpy" with writing all over them. I was thinking that on the agreed "real" satin blade for looks, why would we want writing all over it. I would like to see a small T.U.S.K. and a serial # just like the SOFCK's, or SARKs. That way it looks like a fairly standard Emerson, but we as a group know exactly what it is and why it exists. Why do I want to explain to some airport security guard why I have USUAL SUSPECT all over my "little utility pocket knife". I would prefer it to be a very subdued thing. Just my two cents.

Yeah, interesting point. I can see some jumpy Rent-a-Turd at BWI that saw the movie "The Usual Suspects" looking at me and thinking about that.

I haven't seen anyone bring up some type of half moon type logo!

Emerson (half moon shaped)
T.U.S.K
###

Just a thought

KISS! Keep it simple, just like a regular Emerson, the Suspects know what it is and that is all that's needed. Tusk 1 of XX, 2001 or T.U.S.K. 1 of XX, 2001. Bolsters and Micarta would be nice, in fact I'll take MOP and Damascus. Serial Number should be in the order that John recieved e-mail confirmations. That's fair and no one has to make any decisions.John and Sniper308 can have 1 and 2.

I'm with Nyeti on this...KISS all the way. Satin finish blade, small TUSK and a serial #, standard EKI 2001 logo. John, you have mail.

K.I.S.S. is the way to go! I like Bud's suggestion (and if it mirrors any of the other posts in this thread, those guys too).

John, You are correct, count me in for one. The logo should be kept simple as with the designs of Emerson knives. No bells & whistles. No fluff.

Emerson Knives
Usual Suspect Edition
1 0f 50

I believe that it should be numbered as 1 of xxx. This way there is no dispute as to who should get what number.

BTW, I'll post a pic of my WELL used Commander. Held up very well to hard use.

OK guys, just got off the phone with Derek.

The Mini Commander is not ready at this time. If we wanted Mini Commanders, we would have to wait. At least until after Blade Show (June).

Derek is going to approach Ernie about the real Satin blades, but at this point it doesn't look good. Too labor intensive. As you can imagine, they are very backlogged with production orders and this would take a dedicated employee to get done. It's not ruled out, but our first year knife probably will not have it.

When I brought up "TUSK" Derek immediately brought up Kevin's trademark on the name. But says he is buddies with Kevin and would approach him about using the name. I explained that it would be used only for limited runs, not a regular production piece. I also brought up "T.U.S.K." and found out that that actually is Kevin's trade mark. It stands for "Tactical Urban Sniper Knife" or something of the kind.

Bolsters on a Commander are going to be offered from the C/P shop and Derek says that since they will have them for the Commander, bolster on the Mini is pretty much a given. But as I suspected, they are not prepared for that yet.

Plain edge, not a problem. Any logo and/or inscription we want, no problem. Serial numbers, no problem.

Derek suggested that to keep the wait and cost of the first knife down, we pick an existing model and just do the inscription and serial number. With approximately thirty orders, this would only add approximately $10 per knife.

Once the C/P shop is fully up and running, subsequent Suspect Knives could be more elaborate.

Thoughts?

I'm all for the full size Commander. I allready have 2 Commanders so for me this would not be a daily carry. I'm all for "Bigger is better" but that's just my two cents worth.

Yeah,
Full size Commander will do for now marked:

Emerson Forums Commander
1 of xx

Satin or Black T blade, plain edge.... whatever to get this up and going faster than waiting till June and beyond

Thanks John for the message.
Warmest wishes,
Oliver
