The Usual Supect Knife Count

Mini-Commander
No frills
EKI logo with "Usual Suspect"
#1 of x
Special marking on clip (as per glockjock's suggestion)so we can identify each other.
Sooner than later, but worth the wait until Ernie can get to it.
My 2 cents.

In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

i think we should wait for the mini commander....whats the rush?.....most of us already have a full size commander or multiples thereof.... i for one do not need another commander (unless its a 98)..lets wait for a truly unique knife for the usual suspects....its not like we are going to have to go without a knife while we wait....i have often heard that good things come to those who wait and this is one of those times imho....feverdoc

Hi,
Since my last posting, I am seeing a more clear picture:
1)majority seems to lean on a Mini Commander and willing to wait till June or whenever that Ernie can get it started.
2)some great ideas came up like:
usual suspects logo on pocket clip and that the first run on the mini commanders will be a limited edition for us. I agree with this as, this mini commander project started in this forums by members
3)keeping it simple with numbers 1 of xx marking.
So far, to me, all the above seems reasonable and I agree. Only the actual name marking on the blade, w/wout bolsters, marking for the year as well as blade colour & colour of scales are all a bit cloudy for me.
I also agree that the whole lot should be summerised and voted with a moderator in charge

Best wishes,
Oliver

If the engraving "Usual Suspect" is too high profile to have on the blade, let's put it on the clip, as Oliver and glockjock mentioned. Great idea!
And I think that it's only right that we wait for the Mini-Commander. This Mini-Commander project was born and bred here. No other blade could be more appropriate as our Usual Suspect knife. I have no problem waiting the months involved; the wait will make the knife all the more special. Isn't that what we've been conditioned for as Emerson fans? Months of waiting for this Usual Suspect Knife is nothing compared to the years of waiting for our customs.

I like the idea of the "usual suspect" clip, that way I have the option of when to wear it. I am still fixed on the idea of a bolstered mini commander, so hopefully this will all work out.

The clip is a cool idea, as long as it remains a non production thing. I have no idea why Ernie would want to mass produce it, but I'd hate to have something like that go the way of the Skull clip - i.e., everyone can get one. If we get something on the blade, it's permanent. And what if the clip breaks, or something? How do we replace a "special edition" pocket clip? I dunno, maybe it's a simple as making it a different color, or something. Or maybe it just stays as is.

The bolsters are a must! I love 'em, and if the "regular" CommandAirs don't have 'em, so much the better for us. I like the idea of black (or maybe Ernie's "custom" o.d. green?)micarta scales. Personally, if it's too much of a PITA to make satin blades, I'll take hard chrome or Black T.

As for the marking:

Usual Suspect
X of XXX

2001 under the Emerson Logo

My idea for the Usual Suspects pocket clip was meant only for the limited production knife. I thought of just making custom clips to add to our everyday carrys, but that would dilute the concept of this forum knife. More value is added to the U.S. knife if the only way to get the U.S. clip is on the U.S. knife. As for breakage, it is the same situation as breaking something on your other knives. You either are very careful because it is a limited piece, or you order 2 knives and put one away, or you send the broken U.S. clip back for replacement (should be the only way to get another new one). Let's make the clip easy for Ernie to laser etch by making it a modification of the production clip and not another color. That way he can make replacements easily. And if we get the first run of mini-commanders as our knives, it's even sweeter.

Hmmmm... well, as long as Ernie doesn't mind etching a clip every now and again...

Artwork... now forgive me if this is silly, but how about the serial number from the blade on the clip, too? That way, if you're walking around a show, and you see somebody with "X of XXX" sticking out of their pocket, you know. Plus, it's simple, and kinda secret handshake like

The group seems to have settled on a Mini-Commander and I will go along with the group. In terms of the pocket clip, let's keep it simple. Usual Suspects 1 of xx on the blade and a unique logo on the clip, period.

Sorry for the double post.

I agree that the clip logo should be simple. It could be a simple yet criptic "U.S." or something like this:

This is a logo I swipped off a websites wallpaper when searching "cloak and dagger". One half of the figure could appear to be creeping onto the clip with blade in hand. Just a thought, but we need a graphic artist no matter what. Who did the artwork for the tee-shirts? Any comments on the Creeping Suspect idea?

I'm willing to go through all these (gulp) 91 posts to get an accurate count of what people want in our USK. But, I'll have to wait until this weekend, when I have some time on my hands. Once I get the count, I'll start a new thread.

I will probably be good for one. I would like to see them serial numbered with identification that they originated here. No serrations. I defer to my respected forumites on the other details.

Oh, c'mon. If we can't hit 100 replies on this thread, something is very wrong.

Hi Guys,
Etching a Logo or name on a pocket clip is nothing more then writing the program for the machine, depending on the Laser it really is quite simple.Because everything now is Computerized. When I was at S&W lasering was my 2nd job,so as long the program is written all it takes is to adjust your fixtures and whalla. You have a logo.Hope this helps and it's only my .02

Well, I've tallied everything up in another thread, so (if I got everyone's suggestions correct - no butterfly ballots for us!) we should have an accurate look at what everyone's overall "want" for the USK is.

Now all we have to do is hunker down and wait!
