The "Whatever" Thread

Oh yes! Somebody has to be the brave one

If only you could see behind that camera.

I had all three boys and the misses dancing around because they were so scared.

I told the wife this is a perfect example of why she needs to shoot that Rem. 870 20g more often

Beautiful sheath or hat band you've got there. I'm one of those rare few who actually like snakes; I even kept a couple during college. We've got a rat snake, that my son named Thor, that resides in/around our house. It keeps the mice out of the crawlspace and the birds out of the eves. I did have to make a deal with my wife that if it ever gets into the occupied space it will be dealt with. I can't tolerate poisonous snakes around the kids and dogs, though. When I see a copperhead on a trail while hiking we pass (at a safe distance) with mutual respect, but they will be killed if found near the house.

Im the same way. If hes out in the woods ill leave snakes alone, but this guy was literally cruising through the flowerbed.

I thought about pulling the skin off and salting it real good to dry it out, but dinner was cooking and all the boys needed baths, so I didn't get to do any fun stuff. :p

I hauled him off to the back of my property and set him next to a game trail so a possum or raccoon might get an easy meal.

dang, big snake :)

We're home now, so that's cool, might eb absent for a while longer though, I have 3 months of yard work and other stuff to catch up on :(

Rattlesnake is good eatin'. Last one I killed was cooked on a stick over a campfire with some lemon pepper and garlic salt. It was way better than expected. Would do it again.

we don't have to deal with poisonous snakes up here in VT. i have a fascination with them though (like sharks and brown bears). cool pic/story heefage. glad you found him.

kinda slow round here, hun?

how about some more pictures...they don't have snakes in them though :(

not often she catches my ugly mug on camera

Peter, at midnight I would expect it to be a little slow around here! :p

That's a great pic of your boy running under those oak trees.
And if that pic of you would have been a Mississippi beach, you would see oil drilling platforms all dotting the horizon.

WOOHOO ! !
I just scored two bricks of 22lr. for $38 !
They were the 325rd bricks, but that still came out to .06 per round.

Who would have thought 5 years ago that 22 bullets would become almost unobtainable...

Lucky dog! I'm down to my last 600 rounds, bought them years ago for $1 per 50.

They have been showing up a lot more around here. I scored about 3k of cci standard velocity a week or so ago for around 5-6 cents a round. I was very happy with that. I'm glad to see it showing back up because at my Rifle events I teach I had given so much away to the kids I was starting to get low lol. Good thing I had bought about a box a paycheck when I was younger for 14 bucks a 525 round brick. Ahhh the good old days lol.

Heefagela- We are just starting to really get the timber rattlers around again in IN. Mostly about a hour or more south of where I'm at. They were damn near extinct but placed on the protected listed and have made a pretty good come back. Saw one just the other day hiking around with my daughter at girl scout camp. Told the camp director and showed her where. They aren't allowed to kill them but since it's a kids camp they are allowed to relocate them off the property. She said there is a very big den of them a mile or so away from where we were at and they often make their way down to the camp sites. Of the poisonous snakes I'm the most ok with the rattlers lol. They at least give you warning and a lot of their first bites (adults anyhow) don't actually inject poison. That was a big one you had. With kids playing around the house He was definitely to close for my comfort zone also lol.

I hate to be that guy but this was from the last time I unpacked the safe excluding rifle and shotgun rounds there's about 1,000 centerfire pistol and about 3,000 rimfire rounds a little over 4,000 rounds total. I don't get to shoot nearly enough but luckily when I do my company pays for most of the ammo and I get to keep what I don't shoot:D. Down side is its all .40 S&W which I don't own a gun in so I usually give or trade it away.

In centerfire ammo I have a good supply of .38, 9mm, .45 auto, .44 Special, and .44 magnum. It's rim fire I can't seem to find, except at gun shops, and I refuse to pay the prices they want.

My dad found a bait and tackle shop in IL that had a large supply for pre-crazy prices so he bought about 4,000 rounds and sent them my way. Evidently the shop owner either didn't care or didn't get the memo that he was sitting on a gold mine. I've only managed to shoot a couple hundred rounds. He went back a couple weeks later to try and get some more and he said the place was barren.

I know their a threatened species in LA and protected in TX.
I did a little research and found that they are a shy species that tends to sit tight and not move when startled. That is probably why a lot of them get killed.
I hate that this one had to die but my dog was going crazy to get at it and if I would have tried to get it in a bucket of some sort my dog would have gotten bit in the process.

The males are traveling looking for females this time of the year and im betting this guy was just cruising along searching for a female.

Im with you on the rattlers. They are OK in my book.
The water moccasin or cottonmouth as we call them down here are super aggressive and will actually chase you.
Those guys are the ones to really watch for. As you said, a rattle snake will almost always give you warning.

Ammo? Don't know nothing about it.:p

Actually I think my next gun purchase is going to be a .357. Hard to say when that will be, though.

I haven't shot a gun in months.
