The "Whatever" Thread

Nice bunch you picked up. When we were in Crown Point yesterday I saw some nice older knives in my favorite shops, but passed on them. I'm getting to where it really needs to be something really special to get it.

mqqn, that granite looks to be UbaTuba or Verde Butterfly, which is a cheaper granite because its so prevelant.
They are a strong material and an excellent choice if your looking for a dark colored counter.
If you dont mind me asking, how much per sq. ft. was it? We charge $55 sqft installed on our Uba Tuba.

The whiskey rocks that TPVT got are made from that same material.

I don't remember what it was called exactly, it came from Africa and it does not have the same patterning that your example has - ours looks black in the house, but in sunlight it is a dark chocolate brown with "opalescent" chunks showing all over it

Had a really nice time yesterday. Got to see neighbors who had moved away, and heard, (and told), some great stories about Ed.

mqqn, have to say ive never seen that stone before!
I bet those brown tones really go great with your dark brown colored cabinets.

Its been a perfect weekend here weather wise. It stayed 60* all day yesterday.
Im gonna try and spend the whole day today outside, if these kids let me.

Oof, hopefully the worst of the damage is only to the wallet.

Best wishes

Every one involved was fine which at the end of the day is all that really matters the bonus is insurance covers everything so it could have been a lot worse.

camping was great -- weather was perfect.

the tactical 22 course was interesting -- oblique angles, prone through a small hole, kneeling through a "window", standing doorway, & over the hood of a car.
3 shots at each of 4 targets per stage, change mag between stages 2 & 3, not timed.

interestingly enough, everyone shot low and right at the far right targets.

Light snow in mid-coast Maine today  Holy Smokes - it's October 18.
I was out planting Snow Drop bulbs and the snow was dropping.
What kind of winter are we in for?

Well got in an accident yesterday after I just changed the insurance over to a $1000 deductible. Yay!

Isn't that the way it always happens???

I am glad nobody was hurt and your car will be taken care of - always sucks though!

It was a beauty of a day today - I spent all weekend teaching, and was able to shoot some this evening

The granite was called marron cohiba -

I was reading something interesting on another forum I go on. According to the ISP, only 2% of Illinois residents have applied for their CCL. (mqqn, please correct me if I'm wrong). My guess is the cost is too high for most people to justify, classes run from $125 - $250, and the permit itself is $150.

I looked into getting an out of state permit as I have quite a bit of family in Illinois the only problem was it out equals out to $100 a year just for the permit itself that doesn't even include the cost of the class.

Where in Illinois do you have family? If it's not too far from me maybe we can get together for a visit. (as long as you don't try to steal the front end off my Cruze to fix yours!)

The permit, which should be free or at most, the price of a drivers license, is too pricey. The main reason however that I have not bothered to get a CCL is that the list of places you may NOT carry is mind boggling and is so extensive that folks that carry on a regular basis, are in my opinion, going to be in violation of the law fairly often or they are going to wear out the trunk lock on their auto! . I am allowed to carry with out the CCL, a handgun at my place of business and my home, this includes parking areas. That is sufficiant for me. I would love to be trusted to carry all the time but do not want to be driven crazy trying to not violate all the no carry zones. Comments are welcome.
