The "Whatever" Thread

Most of the "gun free" areas are not places I go to, the ones I need to remember (which I do) are when I have to pick the girls up from school, and the post office. I only go to the bank every couple of weeks, and don't go to bars at all.

I know what you mean, it can get confusing.

Your car is really the only place that is somewhat universally safe. The list is confusing and when you add businesses that choose to post the "no gun" sign you very well might wear out the lock on your trunk. Oh and don't even think of carrying in any forest preserve in Crook County. It's ok to do any number of unnatural acts there but please be sure you can't defend yourself.

Where in Illinois do you have family? If it's not too far from me maybe we can get together for a visit. (as long as you don't try to steal the front end off my Cruze to fix yours!)
My dad and brother are in Van Orin and of you know where that is without googling it I will send you an Opinel. My family has a reunion every year in Mendota. I've been MIA for a few years now but if I do end up going I would love to meet some BF friends.

Been to Mendota many times, when I used to bring my daughter home from college we would sometimes bring her friend home too and drop her off there.

I wouldn't mind a CCL but it's bad enough the looks you get carrying a knife in the city, let alone try carrying a small fixed blade. Also the only places I could carry would be my house and car too. Most of the buildings in Chicago are "Gun Free". Take a shortcut through Daley Center get arrested.

I hate Chicago. I live about 25 miles away, and I've been there maybe 10 or 12 times in my life, no reason to go there.

The permit, which should be free or at most, the price of a drivers license, is too pricey. The main reason however that I have not bothered to get a CCL is that the list of places you may NOT carry is mind boggling and is so extensive that folks that carry on a regular basis, are in my opinion, going to be in violation of the law fairly often or they are going to wear out the trunk lock on their auto! . I am allowed to carry with out the CCL, a handgun at my place of business and my home, this includes parking areas. That is sufficiant for me. I would love to be trusted to carry all the time but do not want to be driven crazy trying to not violate all the no carry zones. Comments are welcome.

I have carried TWO pistols with me in Chicago. There are 23 categories of places that you cannot carry your concealed firearm, and MOST of those places you can still transport your firearm.

The remaining places you could not have taken a firearm in regardless of your status as a CCL holder.

Exercise your 2nd amendment right or lose it, it's that simple.

I was reading something interesting on another forum I go on. According to the ISP, only 2% of Illinois residents have applied for their CCL. (mqqn, please correct me if I'm wrong). My guess is the cost is too high for most people to justify, classes run from $125 - $250, and the permit itself is $150.

Probably less than that - with the 9 million in Chicago and shoulder counties, and a total population of around 12 million, but I have read that just over 5000 have been issued CCL.

We fought hard to achieve our right - if you let a few hundred dollars stand in your way then I don't know what to say.

Most people spend that much on their phone in two months.

Throw your iphone at the attacker, and save the few hundred you would have spent protecting your life.

when I got my CCL in Ks, the classes cost $150 or more and the license was $150 when you added up all the associated fees.
I still got it as soon as I could after the law passed -- and have renewed it twice since.
this year, Ks went to constitutional carry, but I will continue to pay to renew my license for the interstate reciprocity it carries with it.

It took me a while to put together the money for one but I think it was worth the cost. Figure if it cost a total of $300 for 5 years, (including the class), that's only about $1.15 a week, turns out to be pretty cheap. How much is a cup of Starbuck's coffee?

For me getting my CCW permit was more of a moral decision than any other. Luckily Virginia is a "shall issue" state where anyone with the NRA hunters safety course and no criminal record can get a permit. The cost of the permit is less than the price of a good lunch.

Got me thinking to renew my NRA membership... Just renewed for another 5 years.
Also gets me thinking about getting my ccl.
Louisiana's shouldn't be that much harder than Virginia.
Think ill go look into it...

I believe Illinois is the most complicated state to get one in (and probably one of the most costly) , 16 hours of classes including range time. The upside is that it allows carry in 24 states.

Gonna cost me $125 for 5 years and I have to take a safety shooting class.
Ill know tomorrow when the next available class will be.

Now, I just need to find a concealable handgun... My Beretta M9A1 is about as concealable as a shotgun...
