The "Whatever" Thread

I am just getting settled down here in Carbondale. Don't have internet hooked up yet, so that would explain my absence.

After a 4 year hiatus, I am going to finish my education. Welding is ok, but I could tell it would make an old man out of me quickly.

I am going to work outside and enjoy my job instead.

Headed out to CO for one last hurrah in a couple days. I've been itching to see the mountains ever since our trip out west a few years ago.

Be sure to check out Giant City park near Carbondale, and congrats on going back to school.

Great pics of Hanna and her friend. Looks like they're having fun at camp!

Thanks Mr. K. I have already walked several of the trails there. The lodge has pretty good food too. I have been checking some other parks, including the Shawnee as well. There is a lot to explore down here!

Looks like the girls are having a great time. Thanks for the pics.

The food there is very good! Connie was raised in that area, so we used to go down there quite a bit.

Wow, I missed a lot. I'm on the same boat as others said, I used to post a lot my first few years here but now I lurk most of the time with the occasional pic of my EDC or if something reaches out and grabs my attention. Today I'm working off-duty at the chicken coupe and decided to pair these two up for a photo opportunity. They compliment each other well. The Kane model and the BM NRA Steigerwalt.

Ok guys. I have a bit of a rant here, but wanted to inform yall of USPS's insurance dealings.

I just sold an Ontario Bagwell Bowie 'Hell's Belle' on ebay. It sold for $480. That price is not what I paid for the knife, but it is a collectible so the price is purely subjective.
I put $800 worth of insurance on the knife so both parties would be covered if a claim was filed. I explained the reason behind the $800 worth of insurance to the cashier in case she thought I was trying to make a profit from the lost or damaged package.

She proceeded to inform me that USPS decides how much of the insurance claim is paid back. In other words they only pay you back for what they think the item is worth.

I got a little flustered and told her that the knife was a collectible and the price is subjective for different people. Ive seen the same knife sale for anywhere to $200 all the way up to $600 before.

Then she said that they would have to investigate the item and see what the retail price is. I said to her that the retail price is no where near the value of the knife now because, wait for it, It Is A Collectible!

By this time me and the girl were both a little frustrated. I was almost pissed off because the USPS is basically lying to people about their insurance coverage. The $800 insurance I put on the package will not be payed in full.
The Post Office gets to make up whatever price they feel is necessary is cover the claim.

So, long story short, if you ever sale something that a has a subjective value, you might get screwed if the package gets lost or damaged, insurance or not...

Those two go well together.

You have to show them proof of what you were paid for it when/if you file a claim so you wouldn't have gotten the 800 anyhoo.

That Kane model do look nice.

My wife worked as a postal clerk for several years. She said very few claims were paid for insured packages.

I've heard that too.

The only claim I ever made was rejected. Shipped a watch to France, it got returned to me as undeliverable (so it was either with USPS, the French Post, and Customs throughout its trip). When the box finally arrives back, I open it, and the watch box is there, but no watch. Realized the bottom of the package had been cut and re-taped. Took it to my post office, gave them everything I had, filed the claim, and then was notified that it would not be paid, because I could not prove the watch was missing when I opened the box. Out $500.

I got my money back on a lost knife claim with USPS no problem.(actually the purchaser got the refund)
Got my money back on a lost money order also.
That was for the first knives I bought from John as a matter of fact.
