The "Whatever" Thread

Not sure if you can call it poetic justice, fate, or karma but there are times in our lives when we get to smile inside and or out. We had such a moment today. My 3 year old son had been begging to go fishing for days. With the unseasonably warm weather today we decided to go to one of our favorite trout streams. We walked to a pool that normally holds trout and luckily found it deserted. The water was crystal clear and I could see a few trout swimming. I hooked a few nice trout and let Thomas reel each one in. Two guys stopped behind us as he was fighting one. I thought they were joining us in enjoying the simple pleasure of a young fisherman and his catch. I was wrong, within a few minutes they were crowding us. One guy cast across my line and I quickly(& loudly) pointed it out to him. He said he didn't see my line. I asked if he was surprised to see it directly in front of me. After a few seconds of eye contact he decided to move on downstream. Within a few feet he slipped and went into the water. Normally I would say nothing but I had to laugh obnoxiously then loudly tell my wife that was a perfect example of poetic justice.

ha. what a jerk.

The guy didn't realize how lucky he was, walking away without incident. My wife had already went into "mama bear" mode and was talking about what she should do to some a-hole for trying to take fish from her 3 year old. It was still a fun day. My wife and I enjoy fishing together but there have been far too few trips the past three years. We were actually trout fishing in the ice and snow when she started labor.

yeah, it takes a "special kind of person" to try to steal a 3-year-old's fishing hole. shaking head.

and cool story about you and the missus.

Nice day for a hike around the lakes. One of my favorite short hikes is a five mile loop that uses parts of three different trails and winds around two lakes with lots of hills. You also get to see the remains of an old 1800's homestead.

Haven't had time to go fishing or go on cool hikes but made it to the park today and had some fun with my little girl

Sounds like yours have all been having fun :0 thanks for sharing, unfortunately we haven't gotten out much but we did go to Broke Lake Falls the other day, it's one of our favorite places to go, it's an old park that local people have been tkaing the time and effort to clean up after a series of tornados a few years ago

thought I'd also mention that Rebecca's released a new book (well, several)

A new one to her series "Bloody Moor" in the Tayrn camera's series

But also a stand alone book about a small town in appalachia. It's more general fiction than the haunted,g host stuff she writes elsewhere. It's called "Furnace Mountain" and it's on amazon as well: https://www.amazon.com/Furnace-Mountain-President-Roosevelt-Came-ebook/dp/B01M26HTW7/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

I'd be offering to send out copies but we actually don't have any hard copies of it ourselevs just yet.

ah yes, i get in my "reclective" moods sometimes. it makes me smile to know that Hanna has come out on top.

and happy birthday to Hayley!

Hug em tight, John. They'll be all grown up before you know it!

I ended up being about 30 minutes away from my youngest daughter today, so I am going out there to have dinner with her.

Spent a long weekend in WV skiing with the family. 12 out of the last 16 years we've made this trip. It was my son's 2nd year in "ski school". Within a few years it will be all I can do to keep up with him. Weather was sketchy (60+ degrees Friday and rain Saturday), but everyone had fun and we all made it home safe.
