There's just something about the 940....

^^which one is that Moxy? I'm drooling.

OP, that is an AMAZING collection of 940s. Thanks for sharing.

I've got the 940-1, and a regular S30V 943 on the way. Still getting used to how light the 940-1 is. Sort of feels like a toy, but IT'S NOT.

This picture has a vertical row and a horizontal row. The former includes (L to R) a 940, a 940-1, a 941-81, and 940BT. The latter includes (top to bottom) a 940-Ti 01, a 940-Ti, a 942 with a 943 blade, a 941-81 with a Damascus blade, a 940-1, and a 941-81.
Since I took the picture, I have uncovered 2 more knives: a C/F with a 943 blade and a 940-Ti 01.View attachment 471369

It's just the 940-Ti I think. Mine is number 178/500. It's a perfect specimen too. It will fall closed and has no bladeplay what so ever.

Those 940 models are just sexy. I need to try.

All of the 940/943 knives are modular. You can put any blade in any handle. So you can put the S-90-V blade from a 940-1 in a 940-Ti 01 handle. Also the 940/943 blades fit in the Gaucho handle. The 940/943 handle will not quite cover the tip of the Gaucho blade.View attachment 471639

I got my 940-1 yesterday - loving it so far - perfect out of box - Thank you Benchmade.

That knife shop owner with the 940DM said he actually had 2, but sold the other one many years ago to a collector who had every single 940 except that one - He wouldn't tell me how much he sold it for.

940-1 Super Sweet.....changed mine up a little.

All these fancier/older 940's are making my wallet really hurt after adding the -1 to my collection..of two.
My original is a 940BK with Duracoated scales and the "swedge" I think, somewhat polished on the top.

Love this thread... I own more Spyderco and ZT knives, but the 940 series (943 for me) keeps me comin' back. It's been my "go to" folder for more gentlemanly times (nights on the town, etc. where slimness/pocketability is a priority)... but full respect to those who keep 'em as more "EDC" or "heavy users."

So I just completed a little project, making a "943-1." In other words, I bought a 940-1 to join my 943, and swapped the blades. The resulting CF handle/943 blade knife (or "943-1") is ... my favorite. (I just wish it was in s90v!) I'm selling the other product (the 943 handle / 940-1 blade knife) on a "large auction website" that rhymes with flea-bay but having second thoughts... it'd be a PERFECT user w/ that awesome steel. One surprise from this process: the CF handles on the 940-1 are just ever so slightly thicker than the 943's aluminum scales. Not enough to make me dislike it, at all... just a little surprise.

Anyway, the swap was a piece of cake - no need to disassemble handles, I just carefully removed the pivot screws and slid the blades/washers in and out. Here are some pics from mid-way through the process, and then the results. Enjoy.

I really like the 940 , have had a few and sold them. If they would make them with g10 scales instead of aluminum I would have one. I know they have carbon fiber but they are overpriced . The g10 scales at the same price point as the aluminum version would be perfect.
