There's just something about the 940....

Love this thread... I own more Spyderco and ZT knives, but the 940 series (943 for me) keeps me comin' back. It's been my "go to" folder for more gentlemanly times (nights on the town, etc. where slimness/pocketability is a priority)... but full respect to those who keep 'em as more "EDC" or "heavy users."

So I just completed a little project, making a "943-1." In other words, I bought a 940-1 to join my 943, and swapped the blades. The resulting CF handle/943 blade knife (or "943-1") is ... my favorite. (I just wish it was in s90v!) I'm selling the other product (the 943 handle / 940-1 blade knife) on a "large auction website" that rhymes with flea-bay but having second thoughts... it'd be a PERFECT user w/ that awesome steel. One surprise from this process: the CF handles on the 940-1 are just ever so slightly thicker than the 943's aluminum scales. Not enough to make me dislike it, at all... just a little surprise.

Anyway, the swap was a piece of cake - no need to disassemble handles, I just carefully removed the pivot screws and slid the blades/washers in and out. Here are some pics from mid-way through the process, and then the results. Enjoy.

Hay you just gave me an Idea, did no realize that the blades can be changed out.
Is the 943 the only knife that would fit the 940 or are there others?
BTW where did you get the Standoff, was that an upgrade or is that stock?

Just got my 940-1 a week ago. My very first Benchmade and already I can feel the magic that is the 940. Hard to believe it's even lighter than the EnZo PK70 slipjoint I used for everyday office EDC.

I'm a fan of Benchmade as well as a number of Sypderco and ZT models. However, this old 940 just keeps finding it's way into my pocket. I carry it at least 3 to 4 days every week for the past 8 years. The 940 really is a great EDC.

I just picked up a 940 this weekend. My only other Benchmade is a mini grip that I got for Christmas. I really do like the mini grip, but I have been kind of eyeing another Benchmade that was a little bigger than a mini, but smaller than a full sized grip. Me and my son went to a gun and knife show over the weekend and a dealer there had a brand new 940 for $156 total price out the door. That was the cheapest I have seen a new one go for on the net so I decided t give it a try.

So how do you like it so far?
$156 is an awesome deal for a bk model. I bought mine for a hair less than that on clearance.

I really like it! I've only had it since Saturday so I haven't used it just a whole lot, but I am carrying it everyday. Lock up is perfect, no blade play at all , no side to side wobble, I haven't had to adjust the pivot screw on it at all( I read where others have had to do this.) I'd rank it a 10 out of 10. My only other Benchmade is a 555 mini grip that I got for Christmas. I'd have to rank that one a 10 out of 10 as well.
I like the look of a well used knife and I think the 940 with the metal scales will age nicely, kind of like a red alox victorinox .

Great looking 940! Love the wear on aluminum handles

That green coating is WAY tougher than it looks. I thought it would flake off in a hurry, but it just doesn't. It's a great fit in the pocket. My dream would be to have some rough-looking copper scales on it! Or at least have the back-spacer anodized copper, or just copper. I just like copper.

I just love the 940. The Osborne reverse tanto blade is my most favorite blade shape ever and the 940 just does everything right for me with respect to size, weight, and looks. Today I acquired one of the variations I've been seeking for a while so I wanted to share a few photos of my collection.

940-1 Scales with Grand Leavitt Damascus Blade

I know this is a really really old thread, but nice collection! Is that Damascus blade from snake river knives?

Oh why not add to this old thread.
Does anyone do this ? :
I took the thumb stud off my 940 to sharpen it on my Edge Pro.
Then I thought . . . the 940 doesn't really need a thumb stud; I can just pull on the axis lock and it will easily drop open. Is this the definition of a gravity knife ? I have no idea what a gravity knife is . . . except that they are very evil things that some places ban.

Kind of an ultra minimalist "Spydie hole".

I think I am going to start a new club. Call it the "He who leaves his thumb stud off the 940 like Wowbagger" club. The real "Bad Boy", "Cool Guy" . . . "Operator" way to carry the 940.

Whatdahyahthink ?

It's lighter this way too !
 :p

I have my daily EDC blades split into two main groups. One more day to day task type and another group that has a slightly more aggressive tactical ability built into them. What I carry depends on if it’s a office day or maybe a hike with the dog on nature trails that evening.

My 940’s get carried a lot they are my favorite model ever for a single EDC knife. They have a great blade design useful for many task, lite weight and perfect size. There’s enough razor sharp blade to be used in a pinch self defense wise yet it doesn’t raise a lot of attention from others. I’ve yet to have law enforcement or park rangers raise eye brow at the 940 it just looks like a daily pocket knife.

Haha I recently got a tormek t4 to sharpen my blades and that s90v ain’t no joke! How long does it take you on an edge pro?

I had one of the biggest 94x collections around, sold everything but the gold class versions and TI.....on a side note I am looking for any condition 941-81 if anyone is looking to sell

While I no longer EDC my 940-1, I still have a lot of nostalgia for the blade. Now if I could find a 940TI-91 damasteel, I might consider carrying that in place of my Rike Hummingbird...
