Maybe it’s been going on all along and I just noticed it: selling knives as a “set” or “package”. A group of individual knifes sold only together at a set price. Once in a while I’ll see something I’d really like to have but, for example, one must buy four knives for a set price in order to get the one knife of interest. I get it that sellers can present their items as they wish but several times I’ve really wanted to purchase an individual knife but can’t due to this practice. Arrrrgh!
I'd say 90% of the time I see package deals, folks are commenting that they'd really like to buy only parts of the package deal. 🤣

I wouldn't say it annoys me, exactly, but my least-favorite package "deal" is a great knife + a knife no one wants. I've passed on a few of those over the years.

The way I understand the new law any third party platform will report income over 600 dollars. I assume that applies to things like venmo also, although admittedly I don't really know how the non PayPal ones work.
Exactly. The number of transactions goes away, to my understanding. It appears to apply to payment services through transactions that are marked as business transactions, such as PP G&S. $600. Can't speak for others, but I made a lot more than that just selling two knives last month. Two knives in fact that I had owned for years and couldn't tell you what I'd paid for them back at the time of purchase, which means I wouldn't be able to properly calculate the actual profit (or loss) I made on the sale, so I'd be stuck paying taxes since I don't have paperwork that could prove I sold at a loss (which I'm fairly sure I did). So, either this hobby becomes something that people track like a business, or else they find alternate means of payment that don't involve "income" being reported to the IRS. I could go on, but I'll leave it here.

I hear you. I'm not going to go the F&F route, either buying or selling, it's dishonest and it leaves the buyer unprotected. I'm also not thrilled with incurring another tax bill on something that I'm probably taking a loss on. So, I guess it's time to shut down paypal and go back to personal checks or postal money orders (Maybe bill pay?). It's a lot less convenient for both buyer and seller but not nearly as inconvenient as giving Uncle Sam yet another cut.

It should be noted that checks and money orders come with the same concerns as using Zelle/Venmo/CashApp/PP F&F/etc. in that there's no real protection for the buyer, especially in the case of money orders where once that thing leaves your hands, it's just gone. Anyway, sorry for derailing this thread with this discussion.

Dadpool Dadpool selling multiple knives isn't a huge obstacle; but a lot of people aren't very good at it. They opt for quick and easy; and don't consider things from a buyer's perspective.
A few suggestions:
Not everybody recognizes all 8 of the knives in the picture - label them, or be very organized (hint: keep everything in the same order, ffs. Don't change the order of the knives in different pictures, or jumble the order of the descriptions.
Recycling pictures from old sales (or discussion posts) that show knives not being sold is simple for the seller; but can create confusion. Take new pictures or edit the old ones.
Attaching a few small low quality images doesn't show buyers much beyond confirming you have the knife. Maybe a group of budget knives isn't worth the trouble; but good images help sales.

Email for pictures.

EDIT: I'm done BeeHatching but my perception is that with the tight supply/demand situation that some are leveraging that by not showing pictures with various excuses and also not showing centering/details or just not doing the basics of a sale, but I could be wrong - and hope I am. That being said, I am sure that the majority of sellers are doing the right things. I'm gonna get some coffee now.

This has probably been addressed (I looked but couldn't find the thread), but why do people mark things $OLD or $PF?

In doing this, they replace the listing price, and lose valuable information on the market price of what is being sold. Why not just simply mark the thread SOLD or SPF, and not mess with the original listing? Why not, better yet, indicate the sale price. It would be a great service to others selling and buying.

Here's the most recent iteration of that perennial topic:

I was asked by a buyer this week to erase the price from our completed sale. This was a new one for me but I did not hesitate to comply. Yeah, this is a perennial topic and there will be no resolution. To each his own. No one is obligated to help anyone with their pricing research. Has frustrated me too - many times - such as it is, I get over it and set a price.

Thanks, sorry I couldn't find the most recent iteration. It's funny because the buyer is not necessarily identified? So what is it to the buyer what the sale price ultimately is?

I have received fixed blades that were shipped out of the sheath and several inches sticking out of the box. I had to go to the post office and pick them up because they were too dangerous to deliver. Packing doesn’t cost that much.

There was a maker who used to be on the forum that shipped his smaller knives taped to the inside of a flat rate box. Most of them did not have a sheath, so there was really no protection.

It's the buyers business, and frankly, none of yours.

It's as much the seller's business. Perhaps we could ask what is best policy for the Bladeforums (gives it the most value). They are using the forum for the transaction. Not saying I know the answer, but it is a reasonable question.

The “Forum” has spoken many times, as many times as this question has been popped. Making sellers leave the price up isn’t going to happen.

Flipping, should be a Max price you can ask for your knife i.e. not more than 20% over msrp . That might keep the scum out of here

The buyer should post what he paid for a purchase i.e. I'll take the zt for 250 ,that would solve the hidden price dilemma
