I can see both sides of this, and it used to bother me, but I have actually reached the point that I believe leaving the prices up might be more misleading than removing them!

Often when I am buying or selling, there may be a negotiated price that is less than the asking price - sometimes dramatically so - sometimes just a few dollars. If someone is asking $200 for a certain knife, the knife has been up for a while and not gotten any interest, someone PMs the seller and gets it for $150 - does it really do the community any good to leave the $200 up in the thread? or would that be counterproductive and misleading?

And no, I don't think the parties involved should be expected to go back and post the actual sales price after the sale.

The other thing that bothers me is removing the price. I have heard the arguments for doing so and understand the logic behind it, but it still bugs me.

Not sending payment in a reasonable time is my biggest peeve. Once some says "I'll Take It" and I confirm it's theirs and provide my paypal info, I expect payment withing a couple hours at most unless a alternate payment time is discussed and agreed upon. Now I just put a disclaimer in my postings that if payment not received withing 2 hours of my acceptance of the offer to buy and providing my paypal info, I move on to the next buyer. It's worked so far.

There's a thread just posted on the exchange:

Not a single photo of the open knife - or even just the blade. 1 of the sheath,
1) 3/4 shot of the folded knife and 1) 1/4 shot of the centering.

DETAILS :

• Mint condition -
• PayPal FF or add 3%
• Never used

Seller has less than a 10 feedback.

Knife was posted and sold within less than 30 minutes (with some one in line for 2nds
o_O).

We do this to ourselves  (Well some of us do :() Just sayin'.

And try to get USPS shipping insurance to pay up on a used knife! Not going to happen without contesting it three times and then you're going to get depreciated value assuming you can produce a receipt for the item. They make it very difficult to succeed on a claim over $50

This. For the most part, USPS insurance appears to be borderline worthless if you aren't selling something that you have documentation to show was recently purchased.

I will add this: I've seen a few sellers request or even require no posting in a sales thread. One guy who I don't see too often would even say that he won't sell to you if you post in his thread. This is extremely borderline IMO, almost like the seller feels entitled to a sale, when they're the ones trying to offload a product.

I hope so, G2. Another pet peeve to me is "LNIB".

Today I saw a post that read "LNIB sharpened by 'BlahBlahBlah on YouTube'"...

"Sharpened" means the piece is nothing "L" the "NIB" condition we're used to. Nothing like it at all.

LNIB now means "Used" in my book. I can't differentiate the levels of this description seller to seller.

The same post left me wondering as well

I know it's not the Exchange, but this is an area where the Knife_Swap subreddit really gets things right: condition guidelines. Copied from their sidebar:
  • "A" - New, has been taken out of the box a few of times, never used to cut or been carried
  • "B" - Light wear, been carried, non damaged. Sharpened by someone who knows what they're doing (aka not most of us).
  • "C" - Moderate wear on handle or blade, may have been reprofiled, sharpened not super well, modded in any way, need sharpening; mechanisms (non lock related) may not function properly
  • "D" - Things are broken.
Sharpened? It's a B or lower. Sharpened poorly? C. Never used for anything at all? A.

A good description is still important, of course, but there's still a bright, clear line between LNIB (A) and everything else (B-D).

K_S also requires an all-in price using PayPal Goods & Services -- no "net to me," no fussing about shipping, and certainly no F&F payments. That's a lot of my pet peeves sorted right there. :D

I'll credit them that, those are all good things.

What I really dislike about K_S is not so much a flaw as in a reality - there are so many members that virtually every potential knife I've wanted was already taken within minutes.! :P

Been a few years but a lot in this thread could be said of some of the tactics that are showing up in the sales area today.

One small thing that bugs me is once a knife has sold, people are not changing the title to read SOLD, and I'd prefer it if the title change would start with the word SOLD instead of being at the end of a long title, as my attention span only lasts so ....hey squirrel! .... sorry, so long ;)

I agree Gary. I’ve had a couple lately where someone claims and then ghosts for hours, or more than a day even. Hard to understand.

I tend to get feedback for 1 out of every 3 or 4 transactions it seems. Indicative of the interest level in actual community here I think.

I think the good folks outnumber the numbskulls by a fairly wide margin...but sometimes it's the bad taste that lingers.

It is frustrating when folks don't take the time to leave good feedback and need to be reminded to do so.

I tend to agree, I always leave good feedback if it's a good transaction...however I never do the "I left a good for you, so leave it for me" or "I'll leave a good for you if you leave a good for me".

You can leave a good feedback for me if you want, if not, dont care...I'll never reach the height of 10after10 10after10 that guy is insane...

I agree that you should never have to negotiate or ask someone to leave positive feedback. Most of my transactions have been private and are not reflected in the displayed tallies...but they've all been positive nonetheless.

In no particular order ( I’m drinking way too much coffee today)

1) Leave feedback
2) Accept fees ( factor fee total into final price )
3) Courteous communication
4) Package the knife like you would want yours packaged
5) Provide tracking information
6) Follow up

Why is this so difficult?

I have met quite a few excellent people here, too many to list actually. There are a couple with whom I’ll NEVER deal with again ( “ignore member” ).

thank you all for letting me vent by the way.

I hate sloppy sales ads. The ones where the seller lists 10 knives for sale and has a group picture of the knives on the table, with no numbers or listing order, and you have to deduce which description matches up with which knife…..?????

And I never pay anyone with PayPal friends and family. It is just not open to discussion.
