This is a Cigar Thread

Anyone try Heartfelt Industries Humidification Beads? They add/suck humidity to the box they are in. I just got some, and wonder if anyone else here have tried them?

Check out post #59 of this thread.
I got some mold underneath and inside my bottom tray with the 70% beads. Too wet.

I switched to the 65% beads and everything has been perfect.

Zino is a Davidoff product

One of the best ever is the millenium blend, though its $17 for a robusto

Glad to hear that, thats what I got. How long are you using them?

I've used the 70% for about a year and they were always too wet.
I've used the 65% ones for about 3 months and they require hardly any maintenance. I keep a spray bottle of distilled H2O next to my humidor and I give them about 5 sprays once a month.

The other thing that's good for small desktop humidors are those blue gel disks. One is called GlacierIce or something. I have a little 50-cigar humidor stashed in my bedroom containing some Acids/flavored cigars. I forget about it for months at a time and then I just dribble some of the supplied liquid into the two small disks I have in the bottom.

three problems:

1) my "good" humidor, that was too moist in the winter, is now too dry. actually it's bone dry, and I've tried everything short of pouring an inch of distilled water in it to try and humidify it. I moved my ghurka's and cohiba's to my coolerdor, and they're okay, but this still pisses me off

2) the beetles in my buggy humidor are hatching. so I have to kiss the last three Puros Indios "special aged" goodbye.

3)I'm doing light's and set construction for an outdoor production of Romeo & Juliet, and I don't have any Romeo y Julieta's.
:D

1. Some humidors just have too loose a seal. I have one like that. I gave it to my girlfriend.

2. Too warm probably. Maybe too wet too. Freeze them to kill those suckers.

3) NimicK, Nimick where for art thou Romeo y Julieta's ? ;)

(Sorry I couldn't help myself - had to finish FOL's post :D)

hey there all,

so i just got a box of my favorite cigars, and i'm wondering about how to store them?

i'm not an avid smoker, only on occasion. i don't want to buy a whole humidor just for my occasional habit.

what i've got is an otterbox cigar caddy (30 stick) sort of like this:
main_img.jpg

it comes with this little humidity pad that you get wet and velcro to the top of the box. it seems pretty cheesy to me.

the cigar box itself is wood and pretty nice.

should i keep the cigars in the original box, or keep them in my otterbox case?

also, do i store them in the cellophane wrapper, or take them out?

thanks, i'm a big newbie at this sort of thing.

It's fine. You'll probably end up getting more into cigars and upgrade soon. You'll be happy to have the travel case for travel.

should i keep the cigars in the original box...

NOOO! They'll dry out.

or keep them in my otterbox case?

Yes. The otterbox is pretty good for what you're doing. Simple cheap solution. Be happy. You did good.

Experts disagree and they can for experts. Newbies should leave the cellophane on. I recommend EVERYONE leave the cello on. I leave the cello on.
The reason for this is that it acts as a buffer so that if anything goes WRONG in your humidor: drop in humidity, beetles, mold, etc. it'll spread and affect your cigars much, much, much more slowly. I had a little humidor with 3 unwrapped cigars that got really moldy. It never did affect the other 15 or so cellophaned cigars in the box.

(Experts disagree for reasons of "aging" environment if you're going to age your cigars another year or two in your home humidor.)

thanks, i'm a big newbie at this sort of thing.

My best advise for a newbie: Most people think you have to humidify cigars. Not true. They're ALREADY humidified. YOUR JOB is to keep them from drying out. Big difference. Failure to understand this leads to the biggest newbie mistake of all time: over humidifying cigars.

Feel free to ask more questions. I don't have anything better to do.

Urgent! Rotate your cigars!

Did you know you're supposed to rotate your cigars once every 5 minutes!
There's a special accessory for it.

I have an indian reservation less than 5 miles from my house, they have Gurkha Churchill's for $7 each. A steal compared to prices on the Las Vegas strip.

Another recommendation: Chamuco Black Magic
Ugly lookin Maduro with a BEAUTIFUL citrusey backing

i've got a question.

i've now built up a somewhat supply of cigars (about 70 on hand). i have a pretty basic humidor. i understand i should be keeping my cigars at 70% humidity at 70 degrees F, give or take.

i'm in the process of moving. my car is loaded. i'm driving from charlotte, NC to fort hood, TX (currently in birmingham, AL). i'm having a hard time temperature regulating my car. it'll never be at 70 degrees, plus, the car bakes when i'm not in there w/ the A/C on.

any suggestions? what should i do if those tobacco beetle eggs, hatch, or something? any ideas on how i can keep my cigars cool in the car for the next 3 days?

thanks!

been getting a few emails about this
No doubt you meant no harm, but isn't it enough getting these things forwarded in our email for the next thousand years without having them on the forums too?

I remember years ago my friend and I got this cigar that was not a traditional type of cigar. It was a darker leaf inside and out. The outer wrap was kinda sticky almost like a dark chocolate leather. Both ends as I remember were twist wrapped and I think they were soaked in some sort of whiskey or something like that. If I remember right it came in a 3 pack and had a cowboy on the package-not at all sophisticated. But like I said this was years and years ago. Surprisingly though I recall liking them. Only problem is I have not seen them since. This old cigar store even had the Indian statue. It has been out of business for a good while now. Shame it was nice family establishment mom & pop type of store. If anyone knows what type of cigars these are please chime in!

My wife dragged me to her friend's house several states ago for a baby shower....ugh!

Anyway, I said something to her husband about smoking a La Gloria Cubana on the trip there and he takes to his humidor. He hands me a Montecristo #2 Habana Torpedo.

All I can say is wow! I smoked it and loved it.

Best damn baby shower I ever went to.:D
