This must be where the DEKs hang out, eh?

Considering folks have used EDCs to cut the steel bands/straps on pallets of heavy goods with no edge damage, I think the D3V would've probably fared better.

Thanks for sharing. I think the advantages of MC over D3V for most folks, is going to be in a somewhat narrower use-case.
In all fairness, this was thicker than a steel band/strap. I'd agree though. I think d3v would have faired better in this situation.

One thing I will say, I have noticed the increased abrasion resistance of the magnacut. I have needed to sharpen my d3v knives more often than this mc dek1. I think if someone needed more abrasion and corrosion resistance, an mc dek1 would be tough to beat.
For my uses though, I'd be better served by d3v. No corrosion worries in Utah and I tend to need edge stability more than abrasion resistance.

The hunt for a swedged d3v dek1 user begins!

Hello! If I’m calculating correctly on the sale thread, I’m post 22 and three individuals passed! I might get to come hang out with you.
It seems I should get a swedge, but don’t know what scales I’m going to choose.
Most probably the usual suspects and the new additions of Red Linen (scarlet), Double Red canvas, and tri-color canvas as per Jo's post yesterday in another thread

Is it your first CPK?
Carothers has a named heat treat for 3V, that’s what I’m going with!
No, I have an mc too, but it’s a safe queen. The DEK will be a user, but I live in the Canadian PNW, so corrosion resistance is a key feature for me. Does d3v really hold up that well? I know the reports on it say it does, but I don’t have any experience with it in that regard myself.

I was in New Zealand for 3 weeks during abnormally wet conditions.
I used my d3v sdfk to process a large, wet, red stag and didn't clean the blade. Put it in the sheath dirty.
No rust, no issues. Granted, this wasn't a year long test and it's possible the blade was protected by fat from the animal. I doubt the entire blade was though and it had zero spotting or rust of any kind.

I'd take the d3v over the magnacut if hard use is regularly encountered. The edge stability makes the blade take less damage in my experience. I have a magnacut dek1.

Yes it does. If you totally neglect it you’ll get some patina but a bare minimum of keeping it clean and dry and it will be fine. I have a light chopper that’s been used for years, put away with wet grass and sap etc on it and it’s not pristine but it’s not bad either.
