This week's score (There's more ;) )

Now that multitool was worth the wait, veeeery interesting. Pity about the blade ay.

For me, this week’s star is this one, made I think, by Jonathan Hall (1795-1830). I picked it up yesterday in Otley, and was very lucky to pounce on this, a couple of the other knives, and the razors, just as they were put on display. All the blades are quite thin and slender, and unfortunately one of them is broken. However, all the blades still have great walk and talk, and in fact are sharp, as I found out while cleaning it last night. Always makes me feel a bit strange, getting bitten by a knife this old! Each of the blades are of a different design, and they’re each marked ‘J.Hall’. One even has the remnants of the original mirror polish. It’s a beautifully-made knife in my opinion, a shame about the broken blade.

One of the best knives posted lately, look at the quality on that backspring, the cut-outs and the shadow construction lasting so well. An incredible find!

interesting too that old multi tool. Is it French and tortoise by any chance??

Thanks, Will

Thanks Will :) The folding scissors are tortoise, but I can't find any marks as to provenance I'm afraid.

I haven't had time to do anything with the razors yet, but here's something I picked up from an antiques fair. I don't know if it was the inspiration for the Leatherman Micra! ;)

This one is very interesting Jack. Not often seen, very good catch.

Congratulations, great finds, Jack! :thumbup::thumbup:
Wish you even better luck & more great finds for your future ‘hunts’.

It was strange that I came across the haul of razor’s last Friday, as I had been thinking of sending one of only two I owned previously to another forum member, and it was waiting to go in an envelope. I don’t usually buy straight razors, not least because they’re generally in poor condition, with pieces out of the edge. The ones I bought on Friday will all shave hair still though. One of them also came with a small typed piece of paper bearing the name of an old Leeds barber, which was inside the lid of the case, but holding the razor in place. I wonder if they all came from someone who had been re-honing them perhaps? Who knows. Anyway, here’s the first couple. I have a fondness for Thomas Turner knives, so the Thomas Turner razor was a particularly nice find, especially with that great blade etch.

How can you not love that Tommy Turner and that great etch?!

Nice.

Thanks mate, it's a good one isn't it? I'd take some pics of the others, but I've just scalded my hand with hot soup! :(

When is the grand opening of the Jack Black Museum of Cutlery & Other Curiosities? (I need to start my planning. :cool::thumbup:)
