This Years Holiday Tins

My local Wal-Mart finally put them out. Well, they probably put them out last friday but I wasn't about to go near the store that close after Thanksgiving. Anyway, I went today and bought myself one. I've been intending on getting a 112 and this was a pretty good deal. :) I like it. I intend to go back this friday and buy a couple more for Christmas gifts.

Are these more display knives, or are they users as well? I'm thinking about getting the Muskrat/Mini-trapper tin, and was wondering if they are useable. I've never been much of a knife collector. I use them. What's the deal with these?

Buck sells these knives as regualr everyday knives with wood handles:

The only difference is that they have red bone scales and some writng on the blade. When I got the Wal-Mart 110 last year for Christmas, the first thing I did was take it out of the tin and use it. As far as I know, they are built the same way, are sharp out of the box and should hold up just as well as the normal knives. The writing on the blade will of course get scratched.

One note of caution, the muskrat and mini trapper are built in China, both the wood handles and the red bone handles.

The only knives that should be considered strictly as display items rather than tools are those that would be substantially difficult or expensive to replace. As items that are factory made by a current manufacturer, you shouldn't worry about losing value by using a tool for its intended purpose. If it bothers you, buy a spare set (as many have done with the 112). I don't think that the Chinese knives are collected with the same amount of passion as the American made knives, but I'm sure someone out there is assembling a set of all the China Bucks produced so far. The bone handled knives are more of a "limited" or "special" edition than a collector's edition. Don't worry about using them.

FINALLY got the 122 tins. I live in NY but my work takes me to NY,NJ,PA and I finally found the in Manville NJ and I bought the last six they had!!!!!!! There were none in NYor five other NJ stores!!!!!

well here in eastern panhandle wv,
i found that they got the 112 in and sold out in one day.
they did not get the red bones in the tin.
they are 'hopeing' to get more in...
i was told that that was the reason only a
very few knew they had even been there.

Finally showed up here...but not in all stores. They probably had only 10 of each. Merry Christmas to me!!:)

I bought a set of the Red Bone China Bucks as soon as Wally World put them out, mainly as users. I'm not into collecting the Chinese made stuff, but typical of all products with Buck's name on them, these are users and sharp out of the package. Went back to get another set for a gift, and they were all gone, so they're popular with someone. Still lots of the Holliday 112's, but all the Red Bone were history. Cut yourself with them, though, and you might bleed in Chinese, I'm guessing.

I found another two 112s on Long Island, NY but no more.....I have 8 tins of the 112s now so I done, but just curious, anyone see anymore in the NY-NJ area?

I just got my very first 112 EVER! Wife says I can't have it until Christmas though...dern woman. Anyway, I'm really excited about it! They are ok to use right? If they make them en masse like that they can't be worth that much so I'd assume they'd be ok to use as they're intended. I can't WAIT! I'll be carrying it along side my 889 and Wave!

It sounds like you might not have a 110. But if you do.... 112 is same knife...just a little smaller.

If you don't have a 110,,,,, Well, you have other Christmases to look forward to, If you can wait that long. :D

Well!! In true Wal-Mart tradition, my local hometown Wally World put out their meager stock of Holiday "Founders Edition" 112's...sometime between last weekend and today (15 Jan)...Wasn't that nice of them??? :)

They had about 14 of the 112's, and two of the two-knife red handled whatevertheyare's...I asked the young dull-eyed sporting goods clerkette (well, I'd be dull-eyed too, if I worked in Wal-Mart) if they had been somewhere else for Christmas/New Years and she said "I don't know"...The boxes were on a shelf across from the register; I don't recall now what was there during the holidays, but it wasn't knives... (I think it was shotgun shells)...

From before Thanksgiving, I had looked all around Sporting Goods; asked every clerk I could find; had The Cheerleader go undercover to find out if they were hidden (did you have to ask for them? Like the yellow-box 110's?); looked in Automotive (right next to Sporting Goods), Pet Supplies, Toys...no Holiday/Hoyt Buck Founders edition tins...or any tins...

...But now here they were...at full $25 price...plus 8% NYS tax... :grumpy:

I bought one...it's in a drawer...the executor of my estate can decide what to do with it... :o

They didn't have any of the Remington sets that others spoke of... :(

But the important thing is: My faith in Wal-Mart has been restored! They have not failed me! They are the Discount King!!! :jerkit:

( I bought two dog toys, a bag of dog food, and an ink cartridge, too)

I second that. I got a yellowbox 110 from WalMart over the weekend for $29. Everyone else has then for abotu $35. They make it really tough to hate them but I'll persevere.

they were only in one NY store and one NJ store after checking about ten different Wally worlds......haven't looked again

Someone in one of these Holiday threads mentioned that the dedicated display in their Wal-Mart was in an aisle away from Sporting Goods, in a well-traveled area...I only go into Sporting Goods, Pet Supplies, Electronics, Automotive...and very rarely in Menswear...

If they had a display somewhere else, I wouldn't have known it...and the Sporting Goods clerks probably wouldn't have either... :grumpy:
