Thoughts about nutnfancy and cutlerly lover

I really like Cutlerylover, his video's always make me smile, even the food reviews.

Nutnfancy used to be oke but lately he really has to prove that he knows everything about everything, At the shot show he was talking more then the guys who sell the stuff.

Some other guys I follow on Youtube, also good reviews:

Nutnfancy covers every aspect of a knife: steel, grind, profile, build quality, sharpness OOB, ease of deployment, lock and lockup, liners, scales, even the pocket clip. Yes, he can be a bit long-winded and gets sidetracked a lot. He may have a criticism of an aspect that is not an issue for you, but all of the information is there. Sift through it and make your own decision. I like that he is affiliated with, and beholden to, no one. Cutlerylover is good, but, in my opinion, somewhat less thorough. What about Cajunblaze?

Cajunblaze is the all-time worst.

I was saying over and over as soon as youtube came on the scene that knife manufacturers ought to jump on this technology with a vengeance. Every knife manufacturer of any size should have a videographer on call, if not on staff. What a great, cheap way to get your message right to consumers.

As to the the two particular reviewers cited by the OP - it's video knife content, what's not to like about that?

As a matter of constructive criticism, I would strongly recommend knife reviewers keep their reviews to 3-4 minutes max.

Cajunblaze videos are usually fun to watch, espically the cut test videos. Some of his knife reviews however can get boring at times.

As others have said, it's hard for me to criticize them. Their videos are certainly better than mine because I haven't done any.

I do think Nuntfancy has a tendency to squeeze three minutes of information into a 15 minute video. His stuff would be better if he bought a timer that shut his camera off after five minutes. Maybe that would force him to get to the point faster.

I think they both do a good job putting the time into the videos etc. :)

I never seek out a specific reviewer, but I do like to watch video reviews to see the knife in hand, and see it open/close, etc. You can read specs on a manufacturer's website, but seeing the knife in hand is a big help. I guess I have seen more videos from Nutnfancy and Cutlerylover because they seem to have the most videos online.

I agree that most reviewers tend to ramble on way too long. 3 or 4 minutes would be fine, but as others have said, it's easy to skip ahead, and I won't complain too much about a free video.

Honestly, Nutnfancy used to really bug me, but after seeing a few of his videos where he is actually out in the wilderness, I respect the fact that he gets out there and uses his equipment.

+1  ...I was thinking the same thing. It is nice to see more of a knife than just a cheap still photo before making a purchase.

I like nutn and CL both. I used to think nutn was long winded untill I tried to make my own knife review vid and it ended up being 10 minutes even though I was attempting to keep it short!

I like that Cutlerylover is also a balisong lover like myself, and has some pretty decent instructional flipping videos that I have found to be very helpful.

Out of all of them I have seen on Youtube, NutnFancy is my fav and I do look for his vids on a product if it is something I'm thinking about getting just to get his take on it. I may not agree with everything he says, but I have found I agree with enough of it to trust his opinions. I like the way he covers all aspects of the knife, gun, gear, whatever and breaks things down to a format that he more or less sticks to.

nutnfancy is great.

Jeff is going downhill lately. Its like he ran out of things to reviw. Soon he will reviw his cat.
Jeff: a video of me fixing my car
Jeff: a video of me eating
Jeff: a video of me taking a dump

personally, I prefer cutlerylover.
I find that nutnfancy seems to go off and relates the knife amost too much to the tactical side, and his views on the carry of such items.
since I am not particually interested in the tactical aspects, I find it a little irritating.

on the other hand, cutlerylover does tend to go on a bit now, I defineately prefered it when he kept his films shorter.

used to watch them both, I like cutlerylover a little better. Less preaching on how I should be saving the world and taking the law into my own hands. Don't watch either anymore. I love a nice quick review on a piece of gear, but watching a youtube video that lasts longer than a tv show is just too damn long for me.

Nutnfancy's Shot Show vids were really very good...the "dude" count was minimal.

Watch his Springfield/Rob Leathem video from Shot Show. I can't believe how toolish and embarrassing this 40ish year old man, purported long time military officer acted. Leathem was obviously not enjoying the experience. Yes, I know it is a gun video and not a knife video.

Aside from this video, I used to think that well nutnfancy did some positives, was to me very annoying, but never hurt anything. I have since changed my view. Since his following has grown and sometimes he does a poor job of understanding what he reviews, he puts out a video that makes a product seem different than it is. This can cause smaller/relatively unknown companies pain.

I used to subscribe to both, but nowadays they seem to review everything but knives. Cutlerylover even does videos on food now.

I tend to use the videos to see how big the actual knife is in someones hands, and I may watch 2 or 3 videos from different people to see if there are consistencies with likes / dislikes.

As far as the personal stuff or the number of times "dude" is said, that does not bother me. I am envious of people who actually have the time and energy to produce these videos, and they are free.

Some have high entertainment value.

Some suck. I turn those off right away.

It's all good to me.

I like Cutlerylover's down to earth approach to things. His channel
is kind of a personal channel in a way too, that's why he does updates
on his car and the like. Plus he has other interests outside of knives
and guns that he shares. I like that as big as he is on youtube, he
always takes the time to answer PMs, comments, etc. He's a pretty
helpful guy.

Nutnfancy has good reviews and I like how he goes to shows and really
gives thorough reviews. I think a lot of his stuff starting 6 months to a
year ago started to orient more around his own personal philosophies. But
that's fine, I mean, it's youtube and it's a medium to express your own
opinions in video format. I just tend to stick with the vids I feel I'll be
most interested in.

Both their vids can be long, but I just let it play in the background while
I surf the web or do other tasks. It's like gear radio. lol!

Personally, I'd rather read knife users opinions on this site. Nutnfancy's reviews, IMHO, are 1-1/2 minutes of information jam packed into 10 + minutes. I've tried to watch, but can't get past a minute or two before he's lost my attention. His reviews have to be based on his first impression of a knife because he can't be using them all or spending that much time with each one. This is just my opinion and if you dig his reviews, then I think that's a good thing. They are just not for me. YMMV.

Hi mustangfootball -

I think both men do their best to give honest reviews of knifes to the benefit of all of "us".

I also believe that if someone thinks that they could do better reviews, they should.

best regards -

mqqn

Ditto that.
