Thoughts and impressions if the new Micro/IBBB/Bawanna Bowie Good and bad.

That's a good thing I think. That's a nice looking piece of wood on yours too Steve. Got some nice figure in it.

Well I wasn't expecting the mailman to drop off anything, but low and behold I found a package waiting at my office with a horn handled beauty:D

To parrot everyone else, these are top notch knives. Perfect EDC blades. I have found myself wanting a nice stout 3-3.5" blade folder with a REALLY wide blade. I've given up on that. The IBBB is just that good. Mine came sharp enough to shave hair off my arm and balances SO sweetly in the hand.

The scabbard is great but the frog needs a little work for balance. If I unsnap the handle, it flops forward on my hip and nearly come out. Not a big deal at all. I plan on making a more stream line sheath for it for belt carry. The frog/scabbard that comes with it actually makes for a fine boot knife.

I think this is a fantastic addition to the AKB line up. I have had a very, very long love affair with the AKB, and to be honest, this may very well be the best knife of the bunch:eek:

Your without question directly responsible for my affection for the Bowies. I held one at Aunties and to be honest it didn't sing to me, of course I was on sensory overload after fondling 30 other super cool blades I'd never heard of before. Reading all your praises of them over several months had me questioning my choice of music. You were right and I was WRONG.

When I was gifted a 10" version, for some reason it absolutely sang very loud. I still have the 10" in a little bag on the front of my chair but a micro will be riding on my belt pretty regular from this day forward.

I just now noticed something on my blade, kind of discolored. Not sure if the warm kydex did something or I oiled it and then waxed it, whatever is on it dont' come off with Hoppes. I'm gonna try Flitz when I get home, can't have a tarnished looking Micro on me. Oh the second one is in my lunch box, I can switch to that one if I need to dress up for show and tell.

Life is good. Well sorta. Gotta put down my Beagle today, she's in a bad way so not all good but still pretty good.

Mail man brought a nice box full of HI greatness.

Among all were the two IBBBs...

I'll try to be creative since you guys wrote so many good things about them.

My take on them: They materialize the idea that the greatest masterpieces can come in small forms.

I'm honored and very proud to own those.

Thank you Bawanna, Auntie and team for making them real.

the bowie family at my house, all horn scales, the three consistent versions are all bhakta , the top is bura

I love this thread. I love that Bura.

I made another kydex sheath today. Used slightly thicker kydex.

I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow when my heads screwed on a little better. I do totally love these baby bowies. I gotta get around to sending a letter to Bhakta and thanking him for all of us present and future owners.

he has seriously made a bunch of knives for us, my last donation , auntie said it was all going to him, and yeah I really love that bura too, it really has his mark and you can see how early a bowie it was, where you can see consistent style in bhakta, the work of a man who has done it many times, perfection by practice, where bura was a master probing the form , omg im gonna have to get a drink

I'm going to dare making 2 suggestions for improving the IBBB.

1- No recurved blade - Will make stone sharpening easier and will barely affect the aesthetic.
2- Lower the snap fastener closer to the blade on the scabbard - Will secure the knife in the scabbard.

I don't get it, no recurve, drop point? The scabbard sadly doesn't work for me being a full time sit down person. Hangs too low.

Sorry English is not my mother tong. I'm talking about the small recurve just after the cho. Arrow pointing at it.

I would prefer it straight (like the red line under)
It's obviously from its Kukri roots but it is so minimal, it doesn't provide any advantage and it makes it harder to sharpen on a flat stone.

Gehazi that Bura is bad to the bone! Awesome piece of horn!
Dangit all I just emailed Aunti today for the medium sized one cause I thought it would complete my collection and you had to post that:eek: I know ill never have one of those Buras so good thing I love Bhakta's Bowies too!

Holy smokes! I just got mine, with the 25" Kobra, and I can honestly say that the Micro Mini Bowie is super cool.

I love the balance above all else! So neutral, yet I know it's in hand. Absolutely love it.

I thought nothing could top my Mini Bowie, but I can honestly say, Bawann'a Micro Mini is a serious challenger.

Like Steve Tall, my wife actually held onto it, and didn't let go for a few minutes, she said, "does it come in "pink?""

I guess Bawanna's micro mini bowie may actually keep the wives happy, so we men can keep collecting...lol.

If it saves one husband beating I can do pink. Get some Koa or something stabilized with Pink dye and we're golden.

I made a second kydex sheath for my beloved IBBB today, got the fit a little better, still not perfect but close enough for a kydex burner like me.

Kind of molded in a funnel at the top to guide the blade into the sheath rather than my hip bone. A good idea I thought.

Then I decided to scratch a little checkering on the handle to see if I was good enough to do ndog's. Still got a little fine tuning to do, got to be night time and had to knock off. I'll spend more quality time with it tomorrow.

I'm gonna leave my horn handle version the way it was born. It will be my barbecue, sunday go to meeting IBBB. Forgive me Bhakta if I have defaced your beautiful creation.

That checkering looks good Bawanna! Maybe I should just send you mine to work with too.

seriously you really made that knife more beautiful, congrats bawanna, be careful or you will have a metric ton of knives arrive at your door with "checker me plz" written in crayons on them
