Thoughts and Opinions on The Tribal Lock?

I didn't think much about the yellow delrin ones but that sowbelly with yellow covers has a "come hither" look to it sooo... I ordered one while ordering a second Shot Show special. I think I'm done ordering....for today at least.
Enjoy, it's a wonderful pattern

Sooo ... from the pictures on page one, a "Tribal Lock" is just a "mid-lock" lockback?

I prefer the lockbacks with a long or full length release bar, as found on the Buck 110, Schrade 8OT/7OT/6OT/LB7, and similar lockbacks from Puma and Colonial, among others.
Better leverage to compress the spring and release the blade, and no "hot spot" from extended use.

I tried a mid-lock once, didn't care for it, so I gave it to a co-worker after a few months.

I don't see how the tribal could create any hot spots at all. The spine is smooth all the way down, with a couple of minor dished out spots in the middle. Mine have not bothered me at all, in the light to medium use I've put them to.... the midlocks are theoretically easier to release and fold one-handed, as well.

There is zero need for the "long release bar" on knives designed for mid-back locks and there is no hot spot. And in my opinion, the mid-back lock is far easier to use.

The Tribal Lock is an awesome knife!

Great thread! Was it officially decided that it's okay to post about traditional style knives that have locking blades here in the Traditional forums? It hasn't been THAT long since I got called down for doing so ... maybe a year or two? At the time I was told that "... there are certain criteria used to define "traditional" here and that a locking blade wasn't one of them ..."

Thumb studs and clips are a definite no...

The Tribal Lock I usually carry is yellow Delrin, but I have to admit the bone is considerably prettier.

I have 3 Tribal Locks. Patriotic acrylic, mint jigged bone and the red delrin worker series. I also have Case mini copperhead in this blue jigged bone with the red shield. One of the best looking versions in my opinion. Yours look great. I wish they made a smaller Tribal Lock in this combo so I could justify buying another.

Totally agree on the visual appeal of the navy blue jigged bone with red shield. I, too, have a mini copperhead with the blue&red, and would like to get a canoe and a Tribal Lock and a slimline trapper and a mini trapper and a peanut ... ;):rolleyes:

After three weeks I think I like the Tribal Lock but would love a Tribal Lock junior/mini or whatever they'd call it but make it a bit smaller. Californians get a bit freaked when they see a blade longer than two inches so I ended up carrying the Case Sowbelly with yellow delrin covers - not as intimidating as the Tribal. Bottom line, I love the Tribal Lock and I'd be in line for a smaller version of it and I love the sowbelly as well.

If they made a junior I would certainly buy another, but that being said I have always considered the Tribal Lock to be the “smallest big knife” that I regularly carry. This would be in jeans rather than dress pants and is probably due to the thinness. Contrast it with say a Buck 112 and the Tribal is much easier on the pocket. A junior Tribal the size of the Mini Copperlock below would be nice.
