Thoughts on the Broken Skull

I don't care for the lettering, or about WWE, but since Steve Austin is now apparently a knife designer, I guess it's just something we'll have to deal with if we want that particular knife.

BTW, the design doesn't seem particularly original or unique to me.

Ya it doesn't seem particularly original or unique at all, I just think it looks GOOD--like legendary EDC good. All signs are pointing to an exceptional recipe. I agree with you that we will just have to deal with the writing.

I would agree that the design isn't wildly original, but when you start adding up the materials, size, weight, strength and price the competition starts to disappear.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it is a bad design, on the contrary it looks like a very versatile, useful design. Just a little "Plain Jane" is all. I think it would probably make a great EDC. I personally would like it better with a stone washed blade.

He is not a knife designer. I suspect that he was a fan of the Lone Star Hunter, as he is a Texan, and making the exact knife out of the current materials Cold Steel uses came from Lynn.

Ditto stone washed blade. At least as an option....

Yes, I have to agree with it not being original in design.

It looks a lot like an modernized version of a Buck 110.

I don't consider that a bad thing though.

It's not a Buck 110 derivative. Rather, it's cleary taking most if it's design features from the Lone Star Hunter.

It's clearly taking it's design features from the Lone Star Hunter...which is most definitely a Buck 110 derivative. So...

I used to think they were closely related, but nowadays I think there are only a few meaningful similarities. Might as well compare an Emerson Commander and a Recon 1.

They're all similar in some ways, but the BS (haha) is arguably the most different from the pack with linerless G10 scales because of its weight--it's obviously made to be a more pocketable alternative to the rest. The LSH is a nice looking knife but to me, without ever having handled one, looks a little bit heavy. Am I right in this assessment?

My pops and I are going to get a couple, I'm thinking with the gray, green or brown for myself.
I'm thrilled that they're not pitching the "lone star" design, as I feel it gives tons of utility, while still being viable as an SD blade.
Now even more so with the slimed down weight (by like, a lot!), g-10 for better grip (the ss and delrin is slick on the lone star and mackinac!), and the upgraded steel!
I can't wait! Gotta constantly be checking my fav online retailer!!

It's freaken' heavy!! I wanted a slim, tri-ad locking clip point to carry instead of my xl voyager when wearing my wife-approved "metro jeans" that doesn't scream "I have a huge folder in my pocket!!!". And for that it works okay. Just okay.
Don't get me wrong, it's close enough to get the "classic" Buck 110 feel, but knowing that it's tougher than hell, and 4" of razor almost makes the anvil like weight worth it.
Almost....
That's why I'm so stoked about the Broken Skulls.
Upgraded steel?!
Liner less?!
G-10?!
Highly rust resistant DLC instead of "sure-I'll-rust-in-your-pocket-bare-AUS-8" (perspire even the tiniest amount, and you'll be taking a scotch brite to your aus-8 pocket blade!)
Street price, around $75-$80?!?!
I'll take 5!!

So far this is the only thread I've seen anybody paying any attention to this knife. Do we have any idea when we'll see some reviews?

The closest Buck would be the 317, if you discount that it has 2 blades. The Broken Skull is patterned after the style of folding hunters that predated the 110. I really like the Lone Star Hunter and I'm very interested in the Broken Skull. It's a great design made with very good materials.
