Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

This thrifty little guy hangs out on my keychain, which I guess makes it my most carried knife, although it is so small I barely even think of it as a pocket knife. When I posted about the other larger MAM I got I even said “I got my first MAM”, forgetting all about this one.

Last weekend I filed the upswept portion of the tip off, to make it better for trimming/scoring/package-opening tasks:

I'll never top this for thrifty. Twelve knives in a little box, twelve little boxes in a big box. These aren't even penny knives, more like millicent knives.

The copyright date on the box is only four years before Dad died, so it isn't surprising he didn't manage to give more of them away.

this is a pretty thrifty knife... started out life as a TL-29 electrician knive, but had the screwdriver blade broken off, so I "re-purposed" it into a "poor man's #15 spear point". Wenge wood scales.... I don't carry it often, but when I do, it gets the job done. I think I have about $25 in it, total. It's riding along today.

Can a knife be both thrifty and priceless? My dad gave me this Colonial scout knife when I was a kid. I can’t say for sure that it was the first knife I ever owned, but it has to be close. (Royal Ambassadors was/is like a Southern Baptist version of the Boy Scouts.)

Imperial fishing knife with hook disgorger/scale-er as it's secondary blade... very thrifty. Did quite a bit of fishing over the years including during the period of living on a lake for 12 years.
initial cost less than $12/more than 50 years of use = $0.24 per year max.

I can't remember where I ordered this one from so I haven't found a copy of the order form, but my recollection is that it cost $5-$6 (and I found it at a dealer today for about $6). I took this with me for vacation this week and last, and it's an entirely delightful knife!:thumbsup: I sharpened it on the bottom of an IKEA bowl at the cottage we're renting and the knife cuts like a dream. Plus, the handle is so cheerful. ;) My only complaint is that it's stainless, but that's nit-picking. I'd confidently put this up against ANY sodbuster jr. pattern.:thumbsup::cool:

I bought a gross of those about 20 years ago and I still have a couple boxes left. A couple years ago I used a few for a corrosion experiment (the results of which I cannot explain). As you mentioned, they are about as cheap as they come but they work in a pinch.
