Tidings and the return of Schatt and Morgan?

I can't get too self-righteous about weed. I like Scotch, and dry red wine, and beer. GEC sure sold out of the "Beer Scouts" and could undoubtably do it again if the Boy Scouts hadn't threatened them :) If S&M builds a GEC quality knife for a GEC type of price, in a pattern I like, and they are actually available to those of us that don't necessarily have a "personal relationship with a dealer", I'm not going turn my nose up at them because of the maple leaf on the Weed line. I'm all for a new American manufacturer. To each his own, but it seems like a vegan who won't buy a Northfield because Tidioute uses a "hot dog" shield 🌭

To be clear - my objection to the shield is simply because I do not like it. I do not like GEC's banana shield, nor do I like the actual maple leaf shield they have used, and I do not like the Mary J shield either.

But this is coming from a guy who thinks a shield should actually look like a shield (with a few exceptions, of course).

True...
But they started life as Great Eastern Cutlery with classy knives and shields... then they worked into the funky stuff... they built their reputation first.
The Weed Knife Company set a standard right out of the gate... funky stuff right off the bat... and then they want to market high end stuff after that?

I mostly agree with you. I can only think of a couple of knives I have with unconventional shields. An 86 with a wrench and a Remington with a Kentucky rifle. I'm fine with no shield at all on most knives. OTOH quirky shields add a little fun to the hobby and I sometimes like quirky. The weed shield is so unexpected it makes me smile 🙂 Sometimes I like quirky, although thinking about it, quirky has led a several disastrous relationships pepsweetie.gif Maybe I need to rethink this 🤔

Yup...first impressions. It does seem like a questionable move. I'm just not ready to write off the entire venture yet.

Unfortunately, Northwoods already has rights on one applicable shield😂

It really would have, almost seems intentional the longer I look at it.

They need to release a Northwoods pony jack with a tail protruding from their traditional shield and one up this Weed and Co publicity stunt.

Weird. My Tidioute from 2018 has a pointy arrowhead with corners.
Wonder why the Northwoods used a different/modified arrowhead ... Going for the 18 to 30 lady market, perhaps?
