Its still an awesome knife, just disappointed its already rusting. Why is it always my Kershaws that rust? Blade had oil on it from factory when I pulled it from the box.

Can't you clean it with WD-40?

Not at home yet so I haven't had a chance to try. Just can't believe it rusted even with the factory oil coating on it. Isn't the top steel a 420 or 440 steel? Thought that was supposed to be really rust resistant

i believe thomas w. mentioned that on the stonewashed version the upper is a sandvik 14c28n?
i can kinda see the rust specs. that normally happens on my beadblasted kershaws. i no longer buy them anymore because of that. i either buy their dlc or stonewashed.

These are stonewashed, not beadblasted.

...that is quite a few rust spots going on there...if that is what it is...reminds me to put a wax coating on mine when I get back home. Hope you sort it out.

i'd be bummed too.

it really sucks to put out the money for a high/higher end knife and receiving it with imperfections.

14c28n has always been a rust magnet imo. my hands often acquire sweat while using my knives and that steel in particular does not like me.

i literally would forget to wipe down my blade for one night and sure enough the next morning... pesky little corrosion spots.

some people don't mind but it's a huge pet peeve of mine. in my experience they never truly come out either, they just wont be rust colored after you clean them. spots will still remain.

i should note that im not overly picky either. i dont mind the markings that come from using a knife, but i do mind the marking caused by not taking care of a knife (that's for rev) ;)

thanks for sharing

I don't think I'm very picky. There are other things wrong with this knife too that I've found so far. The CF around the pivot bolt has a small chip in it on the edge of the hole, and the copper weld line is definitely not uniform the whole way across. Here's a better picture showing the rust and the weld line. Otherwise, the knife is excellent. I'm not necessarily upset is Kershaw, because I love their knives and I appreciate Thomas's work he puts in here on BF. Just bummed that I didn't get a perfect example of this knife. Still trying to decide if I want to keep it or trade it for a 0561. I'll hang on to it for a few days and see how it goes I guess.

For those who said you couldn't see them earlier, are they more apparent in this picture?

Yes now i see them. That sucks :barf:

I know, but what really gets me is the other side is 100% perfect (other than the copper weld not being consistent but that's not a huge deal). How can one side of a knife rust that bad while the other looks perfect? Was something spilled on it at the factory? I just don't get it.
