Tilt arrived with rust spots

DO NOT use steel wool or sandpaper if you're upset about small rust spots cause you'd DEFINITELY be upset about your 'new' finish. Flitz will definitely take care of it or even some chromium oxide paste if you have it. It won't mess up the finish, only brighten it slightly.

I think I saw that $300 was paid for the knife. If I pay $300 for a knife, I would expect to receive it without rust spots, even if the factory was underwater. :D

Does anyone elses produce a harmonic hum when moving the blade open and closed somewhat quickly? It's getting louder the more I open and close it and seems to be causing a harmonic noise from vibrating at the right frequency.

edit: here's a video

Does it do it when you open it like it should be opened?

No, when opened with the flipper it moves to fast to either A: hear the noise, or B: produce the right vibration/frequency to create the harmonic noise. I can tell the noise is coming from the lockbar vibrating when the detent ball slides against the blade.

That's friction. Just oil the pivot and the detent.

Hmm idk, I've never had to do that on any of my other folders and I have quite a few titanium framelocks now. Does/did your Tilt do this when you first got it?

Nope, mine is pretty darn smooth. My sebenza does that when there isn't any oil on the pivot or detent though.

Perhaps you should just send the knife back to your dealer. It doesn't seem like this piece is quite right for you.

I'm not sure how I'd go about oiling it. I don't have a precision oiling tool and I'm sure as hell not taking it apart to do it haha. I tried to use a mechanical pencil and get a little graphite on it but it didn't do any good.

What makes it "not quite right for me"? If you mean paying almost $300 for a knife that had about 100 rust spots on the blade brand new out of the box, then yes you may be right. Excuse me if I seem a little upset, but I am.

I don't really see how I could blame BladeHQ as I'm sure they were sold right after they received them from Kershaw.

At this point i would just return it. I wouldnt want a brand new knife with rust spots on it.If you cant find another I'm sure i can part with one of mine if it helps you out.

it's not like he's complaining for no reason. he paid top dollar for quality and didn't get it...

rust spots are just not acceptable. yeah, that knife isn't for him, but it's because of the condition in which he received it.

sh*t happens...

No that's definitely not necessary. If I have to live with it, then I have to live with it. Thank you for the offer though.

Thomas, I sent you an email. If you'd like to close this down, we can discuss the issue in private. I know my Tilt is definitely in the minority now as noone else has had this problem.

I don't see anything worth complaining about IMO, I couldn't even see anything in the first pictures. The last one the magnification was finally enough that I could see it, but why not just fix it? Id just be happy that I got a tilt. Maybe you should put it on the exchange for what you paid, with full disclosure of its "problems". I'm sure someone would grab it up in a heartbeat and appreciate it instead of nitpicking it.

I hardly think he's nitpicking. He purchased a limited production High Quality knife and it arrived RUSTY. That is unacceptable

oh get out of here.

if i paid $300 for a knife and there was one spec of rust on it i would be unsatisfied.

he's not freaking out and his complaint is perfectly rational.

there is absolutely no reason for a brand new $300 knife to arrive with corrosion spots on it.

whether you feel he's over reacting or not is irrelevant because the point is, people purchase knives in that price range to avoid almost every F&F problem possible.

it's clearly not a swing at kershaw in particular.

nitpicking haha.

you like buying a brand new car with scratches on it??
