Tilt arrived with rust spots

Now I see them. Dude, I feel for ya. How's the progress on removal going? Have you tried anything yet?

Tried WD40 and some blue shop paper towels with no luck. Pencil eraser also didn't do any good. I'm scared to try anything else because it may screw up the finish of the blade even worse.

i have used it lightly on other stonewashed blades without harming the finish.I was very carefull.

It was my 0561 actually

For those who said you couldn't see them earlier, are they more apparent in this picture?

Send it back...get another one! Worries all gone...you spend good money on it YOU should be 110% happy with it!

I don't see how that's going to happen. Kershaw barely has enough to send to dealers, let alone swap one out for someone because of rust spots. I may email Thomas or Jimmer and see what their thoughts on the matter are. Plus being without a knife for weeks after I just dropped almost $300 on it doesn't sound too enticing.

I got a BM 710 in D2 as a gift several summers back while we were vacationing at Alabama's Gulf Shores, on the Gulf Coast. I never took it to the beach - but the second day there, I noted a few similar teeny rust spots. No matter what or how I have removed them, they come back. What is the blade's base metal made of? If it is a carbon-type tool steel, like my D2 710, I am afraid you may just have to live with it. If it's a SS, it's likely a defect - and I'd look for a replacement. Sorry for your troubles.

It was posted earlier that it is 14c28n. I highly doubt it's a carbon steel, and most definitely stainless. I sent Jimmer an email.

I would try a quality gun cleaner and see if the rust spots come out. It's most likely surface rust if anything.

The CLP helped a little. But now my concern is if it rusted that bad covered in oil in the box, what is it going to do in my pocket? I don't want to have to dip this thing in 5w30 every 15 minutes I carry it.

I've got some CLP I can try. I'll try that real quick.

I use CLP on ALL my guns...never any problems, at all. But let it sit in for a few hours...don't for get to shake up the bottle.

If you read the bottle it will tell ya to let it soak.

You don't think it can rust in the factoryc why not? If the conditions are right rust will appear.

If a stainless steel can rust with the blade soaked in oil in a dry environment like inside a factory, I don't want it.

In the conditions you describe rust can't form. I haven't been to the factory so I can't say how their steel is kept.

I can understand your frustrations and it sucks that you are experiencing such problems.

Looks to me like an isolated problem..just send it back in and don't mess with polish.

Well the CLP treatment seems to be getting 70% of it off. I still have that email in with Jimmer asking what my options are. I'm going to see if the rust comes back first before I honestly consider sending it back in. Maybe if I'm lucky, it won't come back. What is left I can probably live with.
