Tilt arrived with rust spots

My guess is that the blade was contaminated during the stonewashing process. Other corrosion prone steel particles/residue embedded themselves into the surface of the blade as they were tumbled and it all started from there.

Are you kidding???

yea i was totally kidding, that tilt is worthless. I'm the only one dumb enough to buy it for the full price paid for it. Its in such horrible condition I'm sure if he listed it on the exchange nobody else would want it. I mean for gods sakes you would need to soak that in CLP for HOURS to get that rust off, totally not worth fixing it, just throw it away. Thats what I do when anything I own gets rusty.

Look I'm sorry if I caused anyone butthurt, I said I wouldn't be excited about getting it like that, and yeah it sucks but shit happens. Coming to the forums to get everyone in an up roar about how unacceptable that is and how terrible the qc must be is not the big boy way to handle it though. That $10 chinese knife the op says has such amazing quality control, I'm sure even they have 1 in 500 come out with an issue. This is just 1 tilt of the 500 made, it happens. Being what it is and how its not going to be easy to replace id just clean the rust off and move on, or call kershaw and let them do it, or sell it on ebay for profit, or sell it to 1 of the 100s of people on this forum who would buy it for price paid knowing it has tiny little rust specs on it. Either way, it could be handled without getting the forums involved.

Took it with me to work this morning and managed to get some lube down in the lockbar near the detention and worked it in. The noise has gone away and I'm happy to say most of the rust spots are gone and so is the noise. Thanks for all the suggestions on getting the spots off!

This sucks man. There is no reason for a product to arrive in the condition that it came in. Regardless of whether it's a production knife, it's still a high end offering from a well known company. Even a $50.00 base line production model will not have rust on it, or at least isn't supposed to. No excuse, send it in.

I don't see anything worth complaining about IMO, I couldn't even see anything in the first pictures. The last one the magnification was finally enough that I could see it, but why not just fix it? Id just be happy that I got a tilt. Maybe you should put it on the exchange for what you paid, with full disclosure of its "problems". I'm sure someone would grab it up in a heartbeat and appreciate it instead of nitpicking it.

Hey pry, I have some used knives that you might be interested in. I'll charge you full price since you arn't picky. Also, no reason to get the forums involved since posting knife relavent topics on a knife forum is ludacris. I'm sure you will be happy.

Looking good, I'm glad you got the spots off and fixed the noise. Sorry if my opinion on how to handle these types of things differs with many of you. Working with the dealer/manufacturer in private is just the way I would deal with it. In the end the unacceptable condition the knife came in was fixed with a little CLP. To cqcb, no I don't want to buy any of your shitty used knives. I only offered to buy this brand new tilt in its condition, which I would have fixed the same way the op did. The tilts are awesome knives, that can go up in value, and I'm glad kershaw decided to make a 2nd run so that many of us who missed out the first time could have a chance to own one.

Pry, no harm done. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. If my plan was to send the knife in I would have just emailed kershaw. I was hoping to get some help from the forum so I could fix it myself, which I received thankfully. I'm still on the fence about keeping it or trading for an 0561 though. Not sure I could actually bring myself to use the tilt very hard whereas I know I would use an 0560/0561.

Did I say it was worthless? "Totally not fixing"...never said it was!!!, but the thing is.....it's NEW, shouldn't have to do NOTHING to it...but enjoy it. You're missing the point......I doubt the man came up in here to cause any trouble, we all come up in here to see other people toys, and to learn and gain knowledge...I know that's what I'm here for. It's like you got ties with kershaw or something....seems like you're the ONLY one with the red ass up in here.

We all know Kershaw has the best customer service....IMO, this knife should have been sent back and i'm sure it would have been taken care of by now.

After reading this thread, i just cleaned and inspected my SW version and found no rust....It should have some....i been using it for about a month daily with no mercy and this is the first time i wiped the blade down good exept for on my pants after use.
