CA_03101520475846-X3.jpg

CA_03101520475196-X3.jpg

now, the guy that sold these, didn't want this 'cheap stuff', as he took out and kept the $3000 worth of other stuff - no kidding - one of the tools was early 19th century, ebony and boxwood, and wow - pretty amazing... found in an old barn. just sitting around...

Cool score Bladite, REAL COOL, None of my business, but im curious what you paid for it, whatever it was im sure you nailed a hell of a deal...... I have a old hand crank drill with the bits like is in your pics, pretty sure it goes back about 4 generations in my family. I used to play with it as a kid...... had to take it away from my boy when I noticed about a dozen holes strategically placed in various places in my shop. Lol. Like father like son. :p

Lol, coming from someone that totally disappeared for months on end................ ;) luv ya Moosey, even though you dont wear panties under you skirt, ...... I mean kilt.

I guess if I have any news, today was a pretty cool day in the shop, I'm experimenting with new steels. 1095, 440C, CPM 3V and 154CM. The heat treat is quite different on these, some more complicated than others. But I just dont believe in paying money to put trust in someone else on my product when I have the technology to do it here in house. You can never be the best if you pay others to do your work. Just my thought. Anyway, I heat treated some 440C today, first time ever. I air plate quenched which was another first. Pretty cool really once I got it set up. It turned out well, was a couple of points off what I thought it should of been, but could correct it in the draw. Im gonna get this. Im supper excited.

We should celebrate with beer... This weekend possibly.

Yes, very possible, wifey wants to have a date night Saturday, but plan on being in the shop all day Sunday, Saturday during the day as well, but that might not be the best time to partake if im going out with the wife of the evening. :D give me a call bud! I was wondering why I havnt heard from you lately.

Snark is jumping tonight!

Im doing some etching and trying to come up with a slogan to put on business cards... I just cant come up with one i like that wont send the wrong message, so far i got..

"tools that cut for a pimp or a $LuT"

"A better tool for a bitter fool"

"Trading knives for lonely wives"

"A badass tool makes cutting cool"

Fun Fun. :D

I've been running incognito here recently. Will do though. I think Sunday will work since Saturday will be recuperation from a very busy Thursday and Friday.... I should probably also do my taxes and come up with some info and make a plan in order to start getting pre-approved for a mortgage.

Granted, you might make for a cheap date if you pregame it and get loaded before you go out with the wife.... Just saying.

Lmao.....ya'll should be glad I disappeared.......my attitude was getting so abrasive, infractions might have become a popular cereal....

:D

And for the record, I never stopped reading.....just posting....

I'm trying not to let my depression bleed over into this, one of the few bright spots on an otherwise dark horizon.

Joe....so envious. That is a serious haul. Seriously, it's gonna take a few months just to tune up what's there - although the wood base planes are a little easier to flatten than the metal ones. I've spent a couple decades finding only a fraction of what's in that trunk. Tho I did find a nice Bailey #5 on the way to the Radeke cabin Gathering last spring for $20 IIRC. Still haven't tuned it up and put it to use, tho. That trunk is a find. Happy for you. Yer gunna have some fun with that stuff.

So I'm thinking of tradingy Yuma for a magua, but I'm not sure. I love the Yuma, but I also really like smaller knives, hmmmmm..

oh, yeah, no worries... $150, and the guy threw in a couple randoms cuz i'm a nice guy :) also, his shoppe was amazing... i was serious when i said these were probably the cast offs. the ebony plane he showed me was amazing.

yeah, brace and bit, kids, holes :D

interestingly, this was the best set of bits i've seen yet. i have my Dad's old ones (random and adjustables), and scored nearly a half dozen "newish" to vintage braces cheap ($5-15, there are millions of those) but good bits? no. got TWO sets a while ago...

apparently giving a kid a spoke shave is traditional?

i had a nice drive out to deerfield for those :D well, candia. well, around there :D

there's a LOT of this stuff on CL lately. if you search well. keywords, i know!

i'm getting the Paul Sellers books; that, and a current video of his shows extensively how to clean, tune, flatten, and fix those old wood ones. most of those i found are in REAL good shape still. amazing. the nice adjustable one in the trunk i got is SMOOTH. the knobs work. the blade is *sharp* and flat. amazing.

it's the wood ones... oiy. i need a bench wirewheel and a fluffer *soon* for cleaning those up. though a couple are mint.

a full set of metal based #0 to #...? would be cool. i don't really know the names and om nom nom nomenclatures yet, but Sellers is very good in his videos on *how* to use them, not just making a project with them. as well, he shows you a variety of ways to get a job done, with different tools. quite good stuff.

That Yuma is badass. The handle goes together great.

Thanks, that was my personal Yuma, I made it for me. Someone convinced me that they deserved it more than I did. So, off it went. It was really nice.

@WW, IMHO, profanity makes it seem less professional. Needs to be witty and tough but not in that way.

HAHAHAHA, man i wouldnt really use any of those... Well maybe the last one.. But really those are just meant as jokes bud.

Its a whole lot easier for me to come up with these funny ones than a real one thats for sure.
