Time to your door

SK! has grown to be so popular I wouldn't be surprised if they incrementally increase their prices every year to the point where they can tighten (lower) their production. Ellie and Guy have busted ass to please everyone and surely they need to come up for air and have some level of balance in their lives. Probably the wrong thread for this but I'm going with it...

We have actually done what we can to lower prices, haha. Guy considers it our responsibility to produce efficiently rather than forcing customers to prove how badly they want it by paying more. He started this because he wanted a better knife for himself, not because he wanted to make a bunch of money.

A lot of the delays from the past have been from trying to fix cosmetic blemishes using outside sources. Now, we have finishing equipment in our shop and a new finishing method. There will be less blemishes to begin with and any that do appear can be fixed in-house in a few minutes. We also have a full-time employee starting next week and a potential part time email answerer. It will still take us some time to get orders sharpened and built, but things should start picking up quickly now.

Can't say I'm surprised to hear that about Guy. If he hasn't already, I hope he (and you!) starts to feel the benefit and appreciation of all his hard work.

Hope the new machines and processes equal a lot less stress for all of you doing the work. You deserve a break!

4.1 just came in the mail. Etched logos look good.

Will post some pics with the other 4.1s I have later on tonight.

The handles are black canvas micarta. I have a couple 5's coming with the same colors. I love that black canvas!

I found another 3.5 on Ebay a while back which has linen scales , which I prefer aesthetically. My other is canvas which grips the hand better, less slippage.

Ha! Our 5's will be twins. And you ordered multiple 5's? I like your style.

Man, I've been trying to stay away from that auction site. Those prices are like highway robbery. But hey, if someone out there is willing to pay those prices... it's a free country. I have blades coming on canvas, linen and G10, so I'll get to do a little comparing myself.

Ellie!

I thought I'd inquire here instead of loading up your inbox. I can only imagine how busy you two are.

Anyways, are the 5's going to be shipped out in waves over the period of a few weeks as they get sharpened? Or will they all blast out about the same time when sheaths come in? Thanks!

Just noticed that one of those has the American flag and the other two don't. I thought they all had the American flag. I ordered a 4.1 2nd thinking they all had the flag, really hope mine has the flag...

It is tough to say at this point, depends on when the sheaths arrive. Guy will be done sharpening the GSO-4.1s next week. Then we need to get moved over to the larger workshop before getting too deep in the GSO-5 sharpening, so we don't have to try and move a bunch of sharpened knives down the street. Fortunately, Christian will be here Wednesday so moving over should go pretty quickly. If sheaths don't come in before then there will be a big batch shipped when those arrive, followed by waves. There are a lot of orders for those so it will take us some time to get them all out.

Thanks so much for checking in on a weekend to answer posts. Good information to know. I'll keep checking the update page on your website for progress. Thanks again!

EDIT: Great news about the bigger shop and another worker!

I'm soo envious of everyone receiving their 4.1's already! I must have been one of the last to order on the 19th, and then I've got to wait for the looong journey to Europe. I bet the USPS and customs guy hang on to it a few days extra just to make me nervous. Happens every time... ;)

The two 4.1s on the left in the other photo I posted are from older runs. Also none of mine are seconds so I can't speak for that.

The older ones had a different etching process and depending how they catch the light they either come across darker or lighter. The new etching reminds me of how the logos on the uncoated esee's look and feel.

I also ordered my 4.1 on April 29th and still waiting. Quick questions: Why the fasteners are not Torx and how did you guys manage to order without the jimping? I see no option for this on the site.
