This may be common knowledge but I feel that it bears sharing.
Denatured Alcohol will RUIN a TruOil finish. I was cleaning the bolster on a knife tonight and some of the alcohol soaked into the blue shop towel I had wrapped around the handle. When I removed the shop towel a huge chuck of TruOil went with it, 4 weeks down the drain.

here's another little trick.
Although my eyesight is perfect now, it's not the best in lowlight.
sometimes I use tape as a visual guideline.
you can make your own size width tape.
setup the tape on it's side and use a height gage scribe to scribe a line all around.
then use a razor or blade to cut thru
you can make several cuts on the same roll for various widths
the first cut makes the edge a bit ragged, but the tape line gets sharper
