and, finished. Well I might see if Paul Long is willing to do a sheath.

That is sweet looking - nicely done! I'm looking forward to seeing its leather when completed.

(I think I recall reading somewhere that you don't sell your work but if you ever reconsider that position, I'll be patiently waiting at whatever place in the line that I am lucky enough to grab.)

Wow, I appreciate your comments.
Yes, so far I just make them for myself and the family. I feel like I'm still struggling to improve and set the bar higher as I go. Since they are just for me I can decide what is good enough for a given component. Sometimes I will finish a part like the handle, and put it aside, only to come back and try to tweak some small aspect. If I was making it to send to someone else, I'd probably go crazy second guessing things.

It's on its way to Paul now, so I expect we'll soon see an amazing sheath.

Been playing with some chestnut leather lately instead of my normal russet.

Straps are water buffalo leather on both. Martingale/breast collars, again roughout and smoothout. These go across the chest of the horse and help stabilize the saddle. There is a strap that goes to the front of each side of the saddle, one across the neck and the center piece goes between the horses legs and snaps to the cinch. Lining and straps are all water buffalo again:

The smoothout one (left) is oversized and built for a draft cross horse.

I hope you were in your shop and nowhere near I81 yesterday.
That wreck looked horrible, unlike your wood.
Thanks Mack, that accident was about an hour from me. I've been on that stretch of I 81 before in heavy snow, it's a nasty stretch of highway.

I'm almost back in the saddle and am going to try to catch up.

Home stretch now.

For completeness, here is the sheath by Paul Long.
I guess I didn't need to spend all that time polishing the blade, just stick a handle on Paul's sheath and you have a great display.

Another one done. A pretty good roll for me given how busy work is right now.

Those are some epic pieces, thanks for posting them. That Hamon camebout great and sheathmaker sheathmaker leatherwork compliments that very nicely, Paul does such beautiful work.

Great to see you in here Dave! Epic work as always, that chestnut has great color. Knives look great!

Nice work Chip, that really has a nice organic look to it.
