  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

To the Makers of Things, Show us what you do!

Trying to get back to normalcy...if there is such a thing!🫣😆

How's the retired life treating you guys? Do any traveling yet?
Grat to see you Dennis! Retirement was a difficult adjustment, I'd say it took me oh at least 11 or 12 seconds 😆

We've been busy travelling for swim meets all over the state and have had a couple of small trips in between. I want to take the kids to a good car show, trying to find a good one out west, small ones around here are fun but I want the kids to see a big one, they love classic cars. Colorado has one coming up that looks like a good show. There's a good one in Reno in a couple of weeks but we won't be able to make it. The wife is enjoying the RV, me I'm not much of a traveler but she wants to see some sights with the kids so off we go.

Went camping a few weeks ago and Roy's highlight was finding an old truck cab in the woods.

The beargrass was blooming. Funny thing, I watched a deer walk up to one, bite the stem sideways below the flower, pull her head up, and let it run through her teeth. It sprang back just fine, I'm guessing she was either eating the pollen or maybe brushing her teeth😆

I'm glad to hear that John! There's so much just here in NM that I still want to go see. Shoot, I've never been to the Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon or Zion... so much to see, bucket list is getting longer!😁

We're going to try the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad trip from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO this fall and take my dad.

That's some good looking country there where you guys are... and Roy's just needs to put a nice wax job on his new truck...and fill the bullet holes!! The boy is getting tall!

Lol, when you figure it out let me know. Retired life is good, keeping busy in the shop and working part time for knife and golf $$$.
🤣
Yeah, always one tooo many hobbies! And now that I've picked up hunting again, I need just one more gun!

Well, we'd love to show either of you guys around if you ever get a chance to come down, we got the Town of Lincoln with the whole Billy the Kid thing, white sands is just down the mountain, and just some nice quad / side by side trails.

We're gonna get down there and visit, maybe we could load you guys up in the RV and go for a road trip, I'm a good tour guide for Arizona. Hell we could do a Blade Show Texas road trip!

mitch4ging mitch4ging Dennis, I didn't realize you were down in NM. Is this a fairly recent thing?
He snuck down there a while ago, I think he's an outlaw holed up in the boonies now.

I was originally from here, down in Silver City. When I got out of the Army, I wound up getting a job in Oklahoma where my wife's family were. Her folks all passed away now, so we moved back to help my parents out. My brother works up at Los Alamos, but it's hard for hi to get any time off.

The judge said he wanted me out of Oklahoma, posse chased me clear past the territory line!😁

Yeah, that would be a great trip! Still got a cousin in Tuson and one in Phoenix.
Lol!! The great frontiersman Jeremiah "Macho Man" Johnson!

Sapele and curly maple end grain board. First attempt at a basket weave pattern.

The more I look at this the more I realize how cool of an optical illusion it is. Overall it looks like every piece is a curved cut, it's funny how our brain makes us see a 3D weave. A really cool piece Scott!

One on the left to keep the one the right company.

SWMBO and I were talking this morning and she asked if you had ever made a mortar and pestle? I couldn't remember.

Yes, I've made a few in the past, been a while since had a request for one.

A lot of folks don't know it but every once in a while we get talked into making a pair of suspenders. Folks like em you can tell by RJs face:

Lined water buffalo with military grade (whatever that means) elastic in the back.

The geometry is pretty tricky under the center piece. Once we got it figured we made a pattern so we could repeat without having to figure it all over again. RJ wanted antique brass hardware but we've mostly used stainless in the past. Heck the dang hardware on these things is darn near fifty bucks!

I said we but actually my wife, Nichole makes these. I keep telling her I want a pair but she says I'm not old enough yet. Heck I got 25 plus years on RJ!

Was digging through some old pics and thought some of ya guys might be interested. Everything leather in these pics we made, except the boots and the saddles:
