Tom Pettit Jr. Scammer - stay away

I traded a mint TAD dauntless Mk4, mint Hinderer fixed blade and a mint amsler knife for what was described as a new in the box Shirogorov Quantum. I specifically asked if it was in the same condition as the mint knives I traded and he said yes. It arrived in a box that looked like it was opened a lot, a card/COA, and a cloth. I immediately flipped it and there was lock rock/ play in the blade. It also appeared that the handle was spray painted/coated as there was no detailed milling work. I didn’t see any negative reviews and thought it was safe. I contacted him and he said he trades a lot of knives and he must have missed this. I asked for my knives back and he said they are sold or modified. I stated that this wasn’t fair and noted the forum rules on being descriptive/transparent. He said he could only give me the amsler back in unused condition and could give me a lesser value knife of around $300, literally “take it or leave it”. He said he was only middle class (join the crowd) and that he doesn’t have any knives if that value to give. This is the first time this has happened to me so I learned a valuable lesson. He said to communicate with him via emails, and luckily I have them all and can provide them for any part to review ti prove my case. I know I will never financially come back on top or even with this, but everyone be aware and use your own judgement. If any others want to chime in please do. I gave the knife to a good friend on USN who is very knowledgeable in knives and he said this is definitely not right. He is going to send it to shirogorov to evaluate and see if it is a fake and I will keep you posted when I know more. I just didn’t even want to hold on to it anymore as it is making me sick to my stomach. Tom Pettit Jr, told me these are “just knives” and it is no big deal. Yes, there are others out there with much more concerning things to deal with. But that doesn’t make this right, and even though I am not financially hurting, I work hard for every dollar I earn and I have morals and values and this is WRONG!!!!!

I'm really sorry that you've had to go through one of these scammer nightmare's like this; that we all know are out there & try so hard to safeguard ourselves from.

And I'm glad that you finally followed through (as we discussed via a PM), and found the time/energy, to expose this person & start this GBU thread.... as a warning to the other member' here & to the knife community in general.

FWIW: Tom Pettit Jr was already on my DND list. All you need to do is look at & read his last 4 or 5 pages of posts on this forum & you will clearly see his M.O. here- nearly 100 trade offers' crapped all over the honest paying member's sales threads.

I wish you the best of luck, Ryan, & I'm really sorry that you were scammed by such a thieving parasite- Tom Pettit Jr..

T Tom Pettit Jr every man has his day in court, and I know you’ve had fantastic transactions here before. I trust you’ll make things right. Don’t let the overly-emotional peanut gallery discourage you or cause you to veer off-course. Make things right with the OP and learn from this is my suggestion. Please update these folks as you make this right. For the rest of the mob, to include KELAMA and his unwarranted and pathetic personal insults: Let the man make it right before you grab pitchforks and torches. We have had far, far worse experiences than this here.. don’t lose your heads over a guy that has had a great record up until now. Just my two cents.

I have dealt with Tom several times.. I think he’s constantly keeping his knives in use or circulation. I think his heart is in the right place, he just needs to slow down and wait until both parties are satisfied before he makes his moves, as I do think he is constantly trading.

So he’s not a scammer… but he did make a mistake in circulating or using knives before knowing you were satisfied. I think there are a lot of people that crack open the box and start using knives before they know the other party is satisfied… but in this case it came back to bite him in the @$$.

He isn’t a “scammer”… and I’ll stand by that assertion... but he does need to work to make this right so you are satisfied.

I’m not here to defend his actions for this instance here, it’s clear he has some skewed sense of when the deal is considered complete that he needs to adjust, but the title “scammer” would put him in the same lot as thieves and criminals.. and I don’t think Tom is a criminal. There are likely a few people on the forum that would tell you to pound sand if you asked to trade back if you were dissatisfied. Doesn’t make it right, but some people have an ego problem when it comes to trading back with a dissatisfied party.. and I’m hoping that isn’t the real issue here.

I’ve seen him before crapping up posts with “you want to trade something” posts, get a gold membership if you want to do lots of deals here and send a PM. You’re right… I AM ”biased” because I’ve actually had transactions with the man, and you haven’t. All you know here is what the OP has told you. I really don’t care about your personal issues with me, they have nothing to do with this. You came in here and took a giant sh*t all over a GBU thread and hurled personal insults at someone you don’t even know, without giving them a chance to take corrective action.

I always find it quite funny/entertaining; that after one of these GBU thread's gets started...they always seem to be the perfect instant motivator, that a person need as a big kick start in the a$$, to make a person suddenly see the light & "DO THE RIGHT THING!" The "right thing" that had this M.O. TRADER done to begin with, this BAD/UGLY thread would never have been necessary.

You really might want to take a hiatus from your "TRADING" agenda here Tom, and learn by observing for a change, on how the sales forum protocol/etiquette/decorum works here. And I'm really glad now, that I dismissed (politely) the trade offer that you posted in my sales thread.....

How patient does he need to be?

Looking at your profile would show that you're still quite active in the Exchange despite this issue. I would recommend that you cease activity in the Exchange until you get this resolved.

I have everything in writing. These are some of the screen shots. I am not making this up. This is me showing Tom Pettit Jr.’s responses to my concerns. I have to get up early in the morning. My profession, which I have spent 14 years in education and residency, means that when I show up, people are relying on me. I learned a valuable lesson and will be smarter with who I deal with. I take ownership of that, but I am putting this to rest. My life is moving forward. Here are a few of the screen shots. They may not be in order, but the responses shocked me. This will hopefully be the last I will respond, and I hope this proves my case. Again, I should have been smarter, and this will be something I have learned from and hopefully won’t repeat. But I wouldn’t do business with this person ever again and if it were me I would go out of my way to avoid them.

Tom Pettit Jr tried to trade it off earlier, was denied and told it wasn't in "Like New Condition". He was fully aware of what he had and was trying to trade. He owns this 100%.

I was going to see how many tranactions he's attempted since this was opened but he now limits who can view his profile. "This member limits who may view their full profile."
