Peruna: "I could likely get a Menefee shadow for that price"
The Case/Bose collabs. are a step up from the regular Case knives. The patterns are unique, steel is better, handle materials upgraded, and fit and finish is quite good. I own 2 of these including last years Norfolk pattern which is really fine knife. I also own a few Menefee folders.
I value my Menefee's as a "better" knife, and they arrive sharper. But more importantly, it more comes down to which knife 'speaks' to you more directly.
If you do not have any full custom folders, i suggest you go for one of Rick's folders and then pick up one of the Case/Bose knives later(like last year's Norfolk or this new 2010 offering).

Oooh kinda nice! its an improvement this time for me, that pattern is nice...(all other Bose colab pattern looked stupid/overly flashed up to me..) Sure wish I could justify the cost...

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, no question about that. I just don't understand what you mean by "stupid/overly flashed up". Perhaps you could go into a little more detail about that, if you don't mind.

I must be weird but I don't like the looks of any of them. Maybe its just me. :confused:

The knife in your avatar...with all the metal cut out of the blade....you don't think that looks weird? Take a look at one of these up close and you'll likely change your mind.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, y'all. Some folks just have different tastes. I like Indian food but nobody else in my family does. That's just more for me to enjoy.;)

yes he is, but has given me the courage to say that the collabs are 'over-priced'. this 2010 pattern is a good example. 'over-priced' in that for the same or less money you can buy a sole authorship, better made knife by a number of excellent knife makers. Rick Menefee and Joe Allen are 2 examples that come to mind whose single blade folders sell for less than this 2010 knife.
However, not over-priced in that the collabs usually sell out, in part because we knife enthusiasts hype them up in forums like this.

I don’t think it’s an apples to apples comparison between the collab knives and custom made knives that are in similar price ranges. I think it’s great that we have so many new custom knifemakers here on the forums who are making knives in the more affordable price ranges, but Case has its niche too.

I also don’t think its fair to generalize that all custom knives in this price range are better made than the Case/Bose collabs. There is something to be said for having the resources, experience and manufacturing techniques that Case has, and it’s my understanding that a team of its best employees do the collabs. There’s always a learning curve for any new custom knifemaker, but there’s nothing wrong with less than perfect at those prices.

In the age-old law of supply and demand, they are “overpriced” when they don’t sell.

While this and other forums certainly have some impact on Case sales—because we are such hard core knife nuts—I imagine that a good deal of these collabs are sold to people who don’t frequent forums, including at large Case knife shows in the South.

Saying the Case/Bose knives look “stupid” must mean the poster doesn’t have an appreciation for the vintage knife patterns that they are based on. To each his, or her, own.

:thumbup::)I likem'

I just can't decide between the "PEACH SEED JIGGED ANTIQUE BONE" & the "PEACH SEED JIGGED CHESTNUT BONE"

This'll be my first Bose/Case collab.
