Tony Bose Tribal Spear~New from Case!

At the risk of running against the grain here, I'd say that this particular design doesn't really appeal to me. It seems a bit plain to me, unlike some of the other collaborations which were delightfully unusual. I'm a bit sorry to say that I probably won't pick one of these up.

That said, I really do love the older collaborations and I think they are a good value for what you get. I have two Norfolks and a Dogleg and I would buy more of each if I could find them at good prices. I particularly love the Norfolk. That's about as close to perfection as you can get in a traditional, at least in my opinion and for my purposes. Maybe the new Tribal Spear will drive down prices for the older Norfolk? A man can dream, right? :)

I will likely get one (unless they're all sold out...)as it's a large and unusual pattern, Barehead is right up my street.

Having said that, I have the Norfolk which I consider to be a remarkable pattern, but I am a wee bit disappointed by it. The steel is good, the tolerances and way the blades sit-no rubbing there- are excellent. The pattern is elegant too, but the bone matches very badly-it should match better on a more costly knife. My main gripe is that the edges of the bolsters are very sharp indeed, the bone and the bolster corner are not buffed down, so as you turn it around in your hand you can feel these sharp annoying corners. I haven't got any other knives, production or custom that have this so I must assume it's typical of the pattern. I just like a smooth finished knife in my hands.

Good to see you are active again Rob:thumbup:

I use my knives I carry accordingly.I do not cut drywall with my custom EDC pocket knife. But IMO,this blade design,as a single blade folder,is one of the best all around. Its a bit like a drop point combined with a bit like a warncliffe.
I can gut & skin a deer, fillet a fish if necessary, and still the tip is good to clean under your fingernails.
I'm really pleased they chose this for a collab.,for the reason that it is a practical EDC,alone, aside from how well built they are

willgoy,
I can only speak for the one ebony Norflok I have. I don't have sharp edges on the bolsters on this one.

I do agree that at the price point of the collabs the bone and stag should be more carefully selected and matched. I have some collabs where I was a bit disappointed in the handle materials.

Thanks for the info Gary.

Looks like I'll have to get a buffing wheel to work........

I'm new to this traditional pattern but I own some custom slippies and two Case/Bose collab. And I should say that the quality and the feel is out there on par with the custom. I bought the dogleg and the cotton sampler more than $250 each, consider they were made a few years back, I still think it's not over priced and worth the value.

The two Case/Bose collab I have are the main factor that I don't hesitate at all to take the 2010 collab.

Oh btw, my english is suck:).

I always ignored the Case/Bose collaborative knives until I ran across a Dogleg. I love it more than most of my customs. A very well put together and attractive knife and worth every penny I think. Sure the price is a bit steep for this Zulu/Tribal but if the quality is on par with my DL, I'll pay it.

I just don't understand what you mean by "stupid/overly flashed up".

Rob, maybe this will help explain the meaning:

I suspect that due to your recent vacation from the folksy forum, you are unaware that this is now the "flashy folksy forum". I'm hoping to be nominated to be the new "Flashy Fellow" poster guy for the Case/Bose 4th of July traveling public relations campaign. Can I count on your vote? :D ;) :D

Mike, i don't see why it is not "an apples to apples comparison ". I'm comparing what you get for money spent.
Also, my comparison was not with all custom makers but with a select few, whose work by comparison must therefore be relatively under-priced.
the 2 Collabs i have, Yukon and Norfolk, while very nice, are not close in the fit and finish department to the Menefee or Allen folders i have. The Collab blades are also thicker just above the edge and as the Y. and N. should be slicers, to me this means they are not as well ground as the customs mentioned.
perhaps there is some variation within the Collabs, some turning out better than others ?
To each his own, but for dollar value, i don't see the Collabs as a "best buy".

You got my vote, Sweetie!;):D

Ford, you not only have my vote, but I’m also willing, painful as it may be, to don my 80s spandex to support your candidacy for “Flashy Fellow” poster guy as your campaign manager.

I’ve always liked the Zulu pattern and I’m glad to see it’s the Case/Bose knife this year.

Best of luck on your “best buy” collecting Roland.

Oooh kinda nice! its an improvement this time for me, that pattern is nice...(all other Bose colab pattern looked stupid/overly flashed up to me..) Sure wish I could justify the cost...

These flashy bocolab knives are stupid!! I have been trying to get the lights to work on this dam* knife forever, and it no longer keeps my beer cold!! And I paid $280 bucks - it should at least collaborate!!:grumpy:

Something is stupid around here!!:p I am going back to plain black . . .maybe with a little camouflage!! Dam* conno-sewers can keep their flashy crap!!

P.S. I vote for the spandex guy!! Whoo Hooo!!!
:D:D

IMO,perhaps not the most traditional of patterns,but the only knife better than this one,for a collab,is the Panama Trapper.Now there's an idea,Tony & Case,you lookin' ?

Ummm Charlie, two words for you... New batteries. I replaced
mine yesterday and this thing is spinning like a top again. Even the propeller is working at top speed and let me tell you that comes in handy when your cutting the grass with a 105deg heat index

Of course!! Batteries!!
I shoulda thunk it! Must be all that PBR!!

Got to handle two from Case on Friday. Tony had one they had given him (or lent) :D.

The ones I saw were done very well down to the bolster grooves or rat-tails. I am already waiting for them to get in full production. Quality may even be better than I have seen and my history on them goes back to 1999, but I am missing a muskrat and Yukon. As far as worth the cost, yes without a doubt they are. All the ones I have seen seem to go for quite a little bit more than I paid for them so I do not understand how they are not worth the cost.

As far as a knife, I have not handled a production slip joint antique or new that comes close to these.
