Tony Bose Tribal Spear~New from Case!

All kidding aside, they are spectacular production knives.
The only glitch I know of is a problem with the springs in the Lockback Whittler, and Case made them good, if you sent them back.
My favorites are the AH, the Pruning knife, and the Muskrat.
Not overly flashed up in the least!

Quality may even be better than I have seen and my history on them goes back to 1999, but I am missing a muskrat and Yukon. As far as worth the cost, yes without a doubt they are. All the ones I have seen seem to go for quite a little bit more than I paid for them so I do not understand how they are not worth the cost.

As far as a knife, I have not handled a production slip joint antique or new that comes close to these.

If someone's a good boy this year, I might find it in my heart... ;)

I handled the one in Chestnut Bone that Tony had on loan from the Case booth. The average Joe would have to look at the makers mark to tell the difference between a "Real Tony" and the Case/Bose...it's that good.

Anyone that has made a knife knows how hard it is to make one with a half stop and get that spring flush in all 3 positions. I often see customs that have springs sitting high at half stop. That's not bad per se, just not as good as it could be. The one I handled was dead flat flush at half stop. Only the top artisans at Case can pull that off.

For a knife that looks simple, there are some difficult things going on with this knife that Case pulled off well. Folks will determine whether it is worth the money or not...it's kind of a personal thing.

What is the difference between this and the Zulu Spear pattern?

I think it was just a name change for marketing purposes.

I talked to a Case rep. at the show, and he told me they could not use the name ZULU anymore because the name has already been patented(or Trademarked, forget which). He didn't offer to tell, and I didn't want to be rude and ask since it kinda seemed like he would rather not discuss it.
Maybe CRK???

The knives were HOT, and I love the Zulu(I can say it:p) stlye blade:thumbup:
I hate I had to go and mess my right thumb up...I couldn't even open it.
I'll have to get one made with a light pull, maybe the same in a shaddow.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, no question about that. I just don't understand what you mean by "stupid/overly flashed up". Perhaps you could go into a little more detail about that, if you don't mind.

Well, First off,
Stupid was Definately a poor choice of words, I apologize for that, really don't know what i was thinking in saying it that way. :o

As to overly flashy... just that.. Or maybe thats a poor word choice as well, but its what comes to mind. they always strike me as too much polish, too much swedge... Just plain too much Something but I can't define the something. Mainly they just never look ''right'' to me, even in a pattern that I otherwise love...

Not a distaste i can solidly define. Sorry.

I will add that i am not a fan of Bose pure customs,--The craftsmanship IS FABULOUS-- but the look very rarely, really appeals to me.

Simply a difference in taste of style I guess.

I did not mean to insult, nor say there is anything wrong with the previous colab knives, nor Mr. Bose work as a whole. Simply to sate that this one does, surprisingly, (comparatively) appeal to me and looks like a great design and execution.

yep, lets keep it civil if you would, appreciate that muchly!

It's a good thing that they don't accept Amex cards or I'd have
one ordered already, as it stands, will wait for them to become available
and then send in a money order, IF I have the funds ready by then AND
if they have the scales I'm jonesin' for ;)

And Kerry, can you 'borrow' Tony's Loaner to get a few quick pics for us :)
closed/open/from spine all those lovely shots you do so well !

Does anyone know what the production numbers will be for each handle material ? Ebony, then Chestnut Bone are my 2 favorites.
Is the total number made the same every year ?
thanks, roland

Ebony is 200. Doesn't look like there is Mother of Pearl this year.

You must be tutoring those artisans at CASE Kerry:D You should know, as your knives are spot on:thumbup: I would like o see some more shots of that Chestnut Bone 'Spear'

I believe Tony handed that Chestnut Bone TS knife back to the Case folks Friday afternoon so I won't be able to shoot that one. Tony usually gets some of the early knife runs or prototypes of the collabs so I will try to get some shots of those when available.

Anyone see the Case Backpocket prototypes at the show?

Unfortunately, no. Do you have any more info on these? First I have heard of them.

I saw the Tribal Spears at the show and they looked great. In fact, the whole Case booth looked really good, and not just the knives. They had a good set-up for the show.

I saw the Case BackPockets. They had a few in the left side display case.

When I talked to John Sullivan about them he was pretty excited and there is every reason to believe they are going to be a big hit.

The ones I remember were scaled in bone.

Do you remember what blades they had in them? ;)

The Case Swap Meet in Bradford is coming up and Case asked Tony to make them something special to auction off. They said this was special enough for them :D...a damascus Tribal Spear with damascus bolsters and shield.

Ok... I'm breathing now, but still kinda speechless!

edit- I'm fine now. I really like the mokume bolster/shield. Amazing knife!
