Tony Bose Tribal Spear~New from Case!

Thanks for the pics, Gus.

Any chance you can post one of the knife in your hand for perspective?

Sure, as long as there is a little sun out when I get home today. Looks like it may rain and it has been pretty dry here.

Until I (or Elloitt) get a chance, it is a beefy pup not what I would term a dainty pattern at all. Everything about it conveys "put me to work", I look good doing it, I am plenty big enough to get a solid grip and I am ground well all the way to the edge to make the cutting easy.

Here's mine...dodged the cloudbursts to try to get off a few shots...

Overall, I'd rate the quality as very high. The spring is flush in all three positions. The half stop is firm. There is no blade play.

The edge is sharp with no noticeable burr but is a little rough. (That will be fixed shortly.)

The tip could feature a more acute point but it's not bad. (Doesn't compare to the tip on my Howser by way of comparison. Still, it is serviceable and not a deal breaker.)

Blade is well centered. Liners and spring have that "one piece of steel" appearance. Swedges and grinds are symmetrical.

A couple of very minor hairline marks on bolster and shield but since I intend to pocket and use this knife, the nits are relegated to being a non-issue.

Overall, a very nice companion which is going to be put into rotation beginning today.:cool:

No need for me to post pictures. I have one almost exactly like Elliott's. :D

I'll also agree with Elliott's assessment, except the part about the "hairline marks on bolster and shield."

I'm diggin' mine (that part wasn't in Elliott's post). :p

Here's a bit of an update to my earlier post:

Upon further examination of the blade edge I did indeed determine that the bit of roughness I alluded to was due to a burr I had missed during my initial inspection of the knife.

So, I went down to the shop, took a fine and then extra fine DMT hone to the edge bevels until I couldn't feel the burr any longer. (I didn't use a loupe, I'm not that finicky about my edges. ;))

Followed up with medium, fine and ultra-fine ceramic.

I can now pronounce this knife sharp!!! (And very smooth when you run the edge carefully along your thumbnail.)

Now that the knife is mine I'm much happier with it.:thumbup:

Oh yeah...NOW I'm diggin' mine!!! :p:thumbup::cool:

Whew,

It is hot and steamy out there in Bastidville this evening and "steamy" is not too much of a stretch at all.

So with a fogged up lens these are shots of an ugly medium to large size hand.

Gus,

Far be it from me to tell you how to enjoy your new knife, but I think taking it into the shower sets a bad example for the youth of today.

(Congrats and thanks for posting the pics.)

Elliott, your knife is so nice, especially the scales, that i'm going to switch from the ebony. I want one just like yours ! Is it the Antique or Chestnut Bone ?
thanks, roland
