Went to REI in St. Louis today. Pretty disappointing actually. I thought they would have tons of packpacks, and cooksets. Had very few. Well, for someone my size anyways. They only had Gregory Baltoros in med. They did have an Osprey Aether 70, in XL I was able to try out. The guy working there was a hiker, and very knowledgeable. As soon as he saw me, he didn't think he'd have a pack to fit me, because, as he said, I'm thick from my chest to my back, and very broad shouldered. Anyways, he measured my torso length, and adjusted the backpack for me, etc. He put 40 lbs in it, and I walked around for awhile. At first, I didn't think it was all that great, but after "acclimating" a bit, I really liked it. He said he didn't feel the Gregory Baltoros would work for me, because of my size. So, that's mainly the disappointing part, I didn't get to try a Gregory on. I wish the Osprey Aether series came in better earth type tones. Not crazy about the colors, but that's probably what I'll end up getting. BTW, the Aether 70 is a huge pack. I may up getting the 60.

Will do. My Bday was tuesday (thanks toall you holes for the wishin of many more)

:D

Happy belated brother, had no idea.

Good to see Moo take some time to get out.
Yes, yes indeed. Hopefully after he's rested, he'll get his se back.

I've got the Aether 60 Dubz and love it. Just curious, what did your torso measure?

21 1/2". The interesting thing was, that a large Aether 70 will fit me torso length wise, but not size wise. I was too big for it, so I had to go with the XL model. It was a good fit. Damn that's a big pack. I thought about going with a 60, but they don't come in an xl. I found a hell of a deal for a Gregory Baltoro 75. I may order it, try it on, and send it back if it doesn't work out.

Have secured a sweetheart of a deal on a 9, minus the scales. So.. I've been researching that this morning and have a couple ideas as to whom I should reach out to but as always, would appreciate the experience and knowledge of the 'heads as to who is turning out the finest examples. I'd like some nice rich, dark scales. Thoughts? Forgive me if any of this reeks of ignorance, but that is why we pose questions, is it not?

I have a spare set of grivory scales if you want to be able to use it while waiting for Todd to make you a set of wood ones off an M-18... :D

So I have some pulled pork left over from yesterday and trying to come up with something to make. If anyone has some ideas I'm open to any suggestions.

calzone.

Thinking of trading my Junglas for a beefy framelock...

I just have too much love for the BK9

does it have to be a locking blade?
I have a titanium slabbed friction folder of doom... with manual locking feature.

The snow storm kinked my grinding & heat-treating plans since knife night was cancelled. Today was spent moving snowflakes from here to there, but I did get to finish another scrap knife. This one is a bit more 'correct' than the last. Needs a couple coats of tru-oil to give it a sheen and really bring out the grain:

I hate f*ckin' snow.

Six hours on the John Deere (4 tire chains) clearing my driveway and a couple of neighbor's, and the yard so the dog can find his toilet. Officially 27 inches here, but parts of the State (east central) got over 35".

I just came across these two videos--I thought they were pretty good and worth sharing--Maybe you have already seen them, Im slow like that--:D

So, we got a very nice tax refund this year and me and the misses each let ourselves buy ONE toy before storing the rest in the savings accounts. I finally got the Benchmade Contego that my knife store guy has been praising and exalting since it came out. You know...He might be on to something. I really love this knife. I know it looks kind of tactical, but I still carry a SAK with me at all times so I use that if there's non-knife people around.

I still really want a pistol, but this was a lot cheaper and my GF is kind of flip flopping lately on whether or not she is ok with us having a gun in the house. She kind of does get a say in the matter as our child/soon to be children are part of our shared space. Time will tell...

Daizee, that's a pretty cool lookin knife. What wood is the handle?

RB, that sucker is big!! What's the steel?

I finally got off my butt and ordered an fpr bk16 after Derek pointed out that there were only 5 left. I'm gonna strip it as soon as it shows up and figure out a way to cover the etching. Maybe a bleach bath. Any other suggestions?

Mornin gents.

Nice lookin steel there RB. I'm diggin the peanut too. I love that worn emerald bone or whatever they call those scales. I've been lookin at pickin up a barlow with those scales.

'Preciate it, 1066. But I've secured other scales, based on Todd's and others recommendations. Todd is very busy getting ready for Blade Show..I don't wanna impose, he's got bigger fish to fry.

That's how I did mine. You may have to dunk it twice. I dropped it is PCB etchant first, then vertically in bleach when it didn't turn out quite the way I wanted it. The etching on mine is still visible, but it's been hidden enough that it doesn't bother me. Fisking it helped hide the "First" as well. Turned out pretty good.
