Toohr #3 knife sharpener

Well, I just bought a Hapstone R2 and when I was putting it together I had an interesting thought. I wondered if the module holder part would fit onto the TooHr and allow you to just use the Hapstone stuff without having to faff about with adapters and what not.

Turns out yes, it looks like it would fit very well. With a few holes that would need to be drilled if course. I dub it the abomination "HapstooHr".

I will leave that project for another day 😂 If Hapstone were to ever sell that part by itself it might be a suggested upgrade for those with the abilities to install it.
I've been thinking about modifications I could make to my Toohr. A plate and tube/round stock piece like this would be pretty easy to fabricate. Looking at the Hapstone attachments, though, it doesn't seem like its any less expensive than the accessories available from Gritomatic. I'm just a cheap dude, so I'll probably end up modifying the clamps that came with my unit and call it a day. I just want a tiny bit more blade clearance for my thicker knives. Maybe i should touch up my Benchmade Full Immunity first, though, to fully consider the consequences of doing that. It's tiny with really thin blade stock.

Whatever works for you works. That is the unfortunate part of guided systems, they tend to get expensive but they will last nearly forever. Aaaand then there is the "I wonder" bug that leads you down various rabbit holes 😅

Hello, I will place my order now. Does anyone have the vid of all the tweaks/modifications needed for this kit? I noticed 777edge and Skeptical had some write-ups very spread out, but does anyone have a central video on the setup and tweaks they did as it arrived, and any recommended aftermarket accessories/stones?

Nobody has made a video on it yet, or consolidated the posts. I tried to include a lot of pictures and details in my posts (starting page 5) so I hope they help. The only aftermarket accessories would be Hapstone (with adapter and longer screws) or Tsprof clamps. I don't think the printed upgrades are available publicly but they are not required, just nice to have.

Thank you for the response, I was looking around and I noticed Gritomatic had the nova version, do you feel that includes the great things like better screws and stuff? Would that even be needed here? Thank you again, I will start there once it's arrived.

It just includes some of the 3d printed upgrades and a magnetic plate for an angle gauge for the abrasive arm. The screws can be bought online from amazon. They are just a M5 thumbscrew, can't remember the length needed offhand at the moment but you only need them for the Hapstone clamps.

As far as I know, in addition to the M5 thumb screws, it also comes with a set of M6 thumb screws in case you want to buy TSProf clamps. Also comes with a nice driver according to the description on Gritomatic.

I stand corrected. The last time I looked at the listing was when it was brand new so perhaps some things were added or I forgot about them.

Meanwhile toohr 4 came to market.
Anyone can spot the upgrades?

An update

I fixed the issue with loosing the bearings in linear part by purchasing a new one The one stated here is the right one and the ball bearings are the exact same size.Since there's no hole present in the new one to lock the guide rod tower. The bearings were removed and placed in the old one.I didn't want to spend the time drilling it or dealing with the hassle.

For the sharpening stone holder, I decided to drill straight through it and pin it.Instead of installing a set screw.

I also just purchased a large replacement clamp of AliEx for thicker bladed knives but It didn't do the job as I expected. ATM seriously thinking of milling an 5 degree undercut.

Also considering get some Hapstone clamps.

Hi,
Putting together my Toohrs and have a part "EX-1", it is a sleeve allen cap bolt that goes into the bottom of the base of the swivel.

And has a threaded hole to go into the bottom of swivel, but that would lock the swivel from moving?

Can anyone tell me what that is about as there is no real explanation???

I think if your sharpening a long serrated blade, after setting the angle you would lock the swivel in place and slide the unit left and right.

Hi,
Well, got my Machine together, not bad did not run into any real dirt, swarf metal or anything other than a clear preservative.

Weird but they had the Stone Holder Rod Set Screw, glued in with what looked like Red Loctite????????

Had to take a Propane Torch and heat it up to move it!

Was fine after removal and a cleaning.

Did a few tweeks, cleaned and lubed everything with White Lithium Grease or Spindle oil depending on what part.

Happy so far but have not used it yet, but see no problems!

Hi,
Well, sharpened a couple of knives and the stones seem ok.

Taking off metal and not wearing out from what I see.

What would be a good say 3 stone set or diamond set, for this machine...

That would not break the bank???
