Top Five Traditionals

These 5 are in my weekly rotation and are used regularly.

I just don't like carrying things on my belt.

I would love to wear even a folder knife on my belt, ... the problem is I never wear belts  ... for real ! (ok ... maybe at a wedding or a funeral ...maybe :D )

A couple years ago I bought a sports belt just so I could use belt pouches for my folders, and after a few times I stopped wearing it. Then my Dad saw the belt one time he was visiting us, liked it and just took it :D.

I struggle sometimes to carry knives in the summer when some pant pockets are not very secure and I risk loosing my knives.
For knives with lanyards or key rings I use a victoriox belt clip which I attach to my pants and hang the knife down into my pockets . Knives without lanyards sometimes are more challenging to keep secure, especially while wearing jogging pants or shorts
From now on any new summer pants will be inspected for suitable and secure knife pockets before purchase ;)

No belt

I’m not sure if this counts as 5 knives, or just 2, really. The MAM is always on my keychain, and although one of my other knives will sometimes capture my attention for a couple of days, for the past 3 years or so it seems I always revert to carrying one of these. I have other knives I use harder for a variety of things, but I usually just put them away when I’m done.

Current top five of my traditional knife collection. A variety of blade shapes and sizes. I typically carry any two depending on my needs. I have to say that the barlow has a very efficient blade to handle ratio compared to the others.

Big spoon and little spoon. :D

I have looked into it.
If it's a "Dirk or Dagger", it has to be carried "openly".
I wasn't referring to the laws, I was referring to say neck carry or with a clip sheath on the outside of your pocket.
If it's not for you I get it, but there are at least options if you really really want to carry a small fixed blade.

Let's just say that John's normal work environment doesn't look too fondly on someone carrying a knife openly, even if he could do so legally.

Five knives I carry WAY more than anything else... Let's see yours.
Nice lineup, John. The knives I carry most seem to rotate through the years. There was a time when I was carrying a yellow Case medium stockman or a hayn’ helper a lot, but I haven’t been carrying either lately.

These 5 are the ones I’ve been carrying more than anything else lately, some longer than others.

On the weekend a lot of times I’ll carry something smaller, but these get the most overall use.

Top 5 ... I can do "Top 5 Patterns", but not individual knives. I keep switching knives, but generally stay within a narrow pattern range or group.

Patterns that I've carried the longest, and have the most of:

1) 4 blade Scout/Camp/Demo knife, since roughly April 6, 1960. (received my first one on my 5th birthday.) Carried daily since.

2) (large, 3.875 inch to 4.625 inch closed) serpentine stockman. I think I got my first stockman on my birthday in 1963 ... give or take a year. Carried daily since.

3) Two Blade (3.125 to 3.25 inch closed) Barlow. Since my birthday in 1961 or 1962. Carried daily until approximately 2015/2016 when I added the Canoe and Sunfish patterns to my accumulation.

4) Buck 110 type lockback, (to include the Old Timer 6OT and 7OT, and the 110LT) since April 6, 1968 or 1969. Carried daily from 1968/1969 to June or July, 2020, when I got my first 2 blade slipjoint folding hunter. The two blade slipjoint folding hunter has been on my belt for perhaps a total of a month, possibly as much as a month and a half, since.

5) Three Way Tie between a 5.625 inch closed Canoe, a 4inch or larger closed Sunfish, and full size 4.125~4.250 inch closed Moose pattern.
Of/In the moose pattern, I really like the Rough Ryder with the modified extra belly Spey/Skinning blade, over the more or less standard spear point secondary.
I've carried these three patterns with the Scout/Camp/Demo/Stockman/lockback combination about equally since 2013, when I added a 4th knife to my pocket.

Before I was forced to retire 3 years ago for health resons, there were times I carried a specialty knife, such as a Marlin Spike, for a consecutive year or three, in addition to the base Stockman/4 blade Scout/Lockback combination, depending on what my job duties were.

These five slip joints find their way into my pocket most often. There's no rotation, just what I pick for the day. No rhyme nor reason.
There's almost always a small sheath knife and a modern too.

I could bond with any of them, or all :D:cool:

I often have a small fixed, a puukko or Bark River about the size of a GEC 15 or less in a sheath in the coat pocket or bag. Belt carry? Can't stand it ;)

Hmmm.....they all cut? ;)
All worthy carries, Will!
I particularly like that Fox leaf blade! Looks like a good all around choice.

:D;) Thanks Gary, they're all around the same size too I suppose. The Fox is a really good user, light, strong being Micarta and the M390 offers really good performance cutting
