Toughest Folder on Earth

How about an Demko Model 1? The blade is 4.125" x .200 thick S30V, handle is 125 thick 6A14V Titanium, with a 1/4" thick 440CSS Pivot Pen! Now that's a beast of a frame lock!

I appreciate the educational view here that you have shared.. Any other knives that come to you mind besides the Spyderco Manix and Chinook as far as the Back lock is concerned. Does anyone disagree with this view as far as the locking mechanism is concerned. Any variations on opinion or do we have a majority concensus here?

The thickness of the liner make it as strong as a frame. But if that's the case, then a tanto SMF will get the job done nicely:) .

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the AR/GB, because I like the knife too, but I have never seen a frame lock with a blade bigger then 3.25" that didn't have thicker scales than the liner of an AR/GB.

I have a Cammillus Dominator and the frame/scales are about 40% thicker than the liners of my AR.

AR/GB are rock solid and I would argue the toughest liner lock on the market, but they are not frame locks.

Well For my utilization, the knife needs to transend from urban oriented usage to the camping with the family type of usage to "explore the civilization usage"

You are quiet correct Storm, however We live in a fast paced technological society and what was the best yesterday is not necessairly the best that is out there currently, henceforth, the need to revisit this topic currently is make all of us more knowledgible as to what TODAY - most of you feel is the best available.
Do I make a valid point here?

Yes, I meant it not for flipping but EDC as well. Thinnk about it a Bali would be more solid than anything else if beefed up. No way to fail and dual pivots holding the blade. If done right nothing would be stronger IMO.

I think Bali's are illegal in many places like Ca, Mass, etc. Not sure though.

Not here, with a CCW anyway. AFAIK it's only ballistic blades, full auto and suppressed weapons.

Blinker seems to be getting into some stout Bali's .....

Seems like Bali's would be the strongest 'broke in the middle' knife out there.

Problem with most is the blade profile which is a bit on the other end of 'utility'. Tanto's and stuff just don't float my boat.

Yah, but imagine a mean street or Badger profile with a bali set up. That would be nice.

Good luck with getting just one...
I have a few good quality folding knives including Stiders, Greco, Spyderco etc...

The Extrema Ratio MPC is the toughest of the tough, not my first pick for an EDC but it is the closest thing you can get to a folding crowbar with an edge.

P.S I might think differently if I had a Mission MPF 1

I doubt it ;)

I've bought the MPF's on 3 different occasions because they looked so good. IMO they are a great design (Elishewitz), but poor implementation. For the money I'd buy a Sebenza or any number of other similarly sized framelocks.

I'm glad someone mentioned Andrew Demko, I talked to him at a show, and he explained to me that the lockbars on his framelocks have reliefs (the cutout that allows bending) that are much shallower than his competitors. I saw some others and he is right, a lock is only as strong as it's narrowest point. Many of the other framelocks have 2/3 or 3/4 of the bar dug into, what's the point of that, you're seriously reducing lock strength.

He has also been known to be somewhat unscrupulous. Check the GB&U before dealing with him. I know he has a habit of copying other makers designs, like Jack Crain's work, for example.

I too have often wanted to buy a Farid, but there's little doubt that he copied Emerson's design pretty closely, it's a shame, because those Farids make a Tank seem flimsy and are as robust as any folder I have seen. Like I said, a shame.
