I loved the Beck version, I loved the EVO version that a certain bloke did and I am waiting for my Horan WSK which seems to have been ordered since BC, its close however! The TOPS version feels good in hand and I am yet to use it to see for myself what it is really like....I am not expecting too much from it as I do not believe any knife can do everything...still, I bet it 'works'. I need a leather sheath for it however as the kydex is clunky.

More to the point of this thread, has anybody completed the Tracker School course(s) and was the tracker the knife of choice within the classes, or other?

If I were to take a knife to this type of class/school, I would take Nicks WSK or even a BRKT Aurora.

Anyway, enjoy the pic while its clean! :D:thumbup:
PS - Patches picked up from *?*bay some time ago.

Can't say I am a fan of this style of knife mate. I didn't mind the J#@$%# Evo, but I couldn't have seen myself using one. As for the Tops version, well I had a hold of one and the first thing that came to my mind was how overbuilt it was and it looked like a very poor cutter! I would take you design (laventrix) any day.

Not for me. But if it were, I'd take a look at Dan Koster's version.

It looks good gundy, but I prefered the EVO I had from the same bloke to the tops as well. It should do anything that you ask of it though, and I am sure that you saved some cash on that version, which is a good thing:thumbup:

If you are going to the Tracker School, take something that is easy on the hand for carving. They actually sell Mora's at the School.

My choice was a Buck Model 102.

I remember some fella named Dave Beck trying to sell me his fancy tracker knife for $300 ( in 1990), but I was too smart for that! :(

Actually I was too poor for that. I wanted one in the worst way. Wound up buying one of his companion knives.

Tops needs an aggressive saw back. The one they have is useless. I have an Anaconda and am going to get a custom sawback like on the REAL WSK from Becker. It'll be a true survival knife then. I've read Tom Brown's survival books and he doesn't know how to bleed a deer the correct way. Being Native American myself, he's pretty phony with some misguided teaching. TOPS knives are great, but his model is big, clunky, and can be matched by any other knife. Put a gut hook or some other tools on it like the ATAX and you'll have a true peice of gear.

The most prevalent knife at the Tracker schools is by far the Mora. It is a much more practical knife for the assigned tasks.

For the standard class I know a lot of people used moras since they sell them there but a good amount used tracker knives which they too sell there. For the standard bring something you can carve with since you will be doing a decent amount of it.

great pic... i really like the beck versions a lot... i thnk the tops versions are a little on the overkill side... i have a few friends, who are all tom brown afficianados, they love these things.... i have small hands, so they definately don't work for me.... they're huge and bulky.....:o

I think if you took he sawback off it would be much better. Combine it with a folder such as a SAK I think you would be doing well.

It would look really cool in the sheath while I do all the tasks with the SAK :D

Way to much knife for my liking. I had Tom teach for several classes I went to (courtesy of Uncle Sam. I would never pay for one now) He never used the Tracker. He just used a Mora. I thought it was pretty funny. As a matter of fact none of the instructors including his son used it. Makes a good conversation piece I suppose.

How can you design a knife or make one that you don't even stand behind yourself and praise so much for it's "uncomparable" uses and design. Oh wait, that is Mr.Lingers knife he is trying to make money on. Leave the knife making to the pro's who stand behind their name.

Thats interesting about the Moras! And that they do not even use their product. Ha!

Like I said in my post, I would take my Forum WSK. Should not be too much it couldnt handle.

It is big. I would be interested in holding the smaller version. Even in the photos it looks lighter and a more usable size.

I'd like it more if the section closer to the handle was longer and it lacked the serrations...but then it'd be a sword:p

COuldn't have said it better myself....If I was going to d battle with a klingon however than the tracker knife would be the way to go....
